This is DRB Media Communications Digital News. A local Women’s Club organization made a monetary donation to the Woodson Boys and Girls Club. Danny Barrera has the story.
Odessa, Texas/July 24, 2026-The Ector County Republican Women recently donated $2,000 to support the upcoming Woodson Boys and Girls Club 5th Annual Literacy and Reading Festival. The donation will help provide backpacks and other essential school supplies for local students as the new school year approaches. The festival aims to promote literacy and encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading.

“So, it’s for them to use is they want to use however, they chose to do a coloring contest and the kids will be getting presents with some of that money. And then they’ll use that funds for needs for backpack. So”
The $2,000 donation reflects the commitment of the club and community leaders to invest in local youth and supporting their academic success. The contribution also commemorates the upcoming celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

“To promote literacy throughout our community, with our kids, throughout the five clubs that we have here in the Permian Basin. The three in the three in Odessa and the two that are in Midland, uh, and the community, because this is not just a club event, but it’s a local community event where people come from all around. So that’s what it’s about promoting, uh, reading and literacy and celebrating America’s two hundred and fifty years.”
The Ector County Republican Women remain actively engaged in the Odessa community, supporting local law enforcement officers and first responders through a variety of community initiatives and outreach efforts. And sometimes that history doesn’t get taught. And so, we want them to know that it’s a big deal to be terrified old, and we want the kids to know about it.

“We try to pick a different theme that we do every year in our community to help. And sometimes that’s going into the fire stations and telling them thank you to the police stations and just uplifting our community in any way we can. But for 250 years, it starts with our children, and we need them to understand. And sometimes that history doesn’t get taught. And so, we want them to know that it’s a big deal to be 250 old, and we want the kids to know about it.”
