ODESSA, TEXAS/JUNE 6, 2021-THE ODESSA POLICE ACADEMY 22 HELD THE FIREARMS TRAINING PORTION AT THE ODESSA FIRE-RESCUE AND POLICE TRAINING CENTER IN SOUTH ODESSA. SEVEN RECRUITS TRAINED IN VARIOUS POSITIONS AND DISTANCES, WHILE FIRING THEIR SIDE ARM AT THE BLACK AND WHITE TARGETS.

MANY OF THE OPA 22 RECRUITS HAVE NEVER FIRED OR HELD A WEAPON.

THE FIREARMS PORTION IS A 48 HOUR WEEK TRAINING SESSION, WHERE RECRUITS LEARN SAFETY, AND THE VARIOUS WEAPONS THAT AN OFFICER WILL USE LIKE THE SHOTGUN, RIFLE, SIDE ARM AND AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.

TAYLOR MARTIN, AN OPA 22 RECRUIT, HAS BEEN AN INTERN AT THE ODESSA POLICE DEPARTMENT SINCE HE WAS 18 AND BEGAN HIS INTERNSHIP IN AUGUST OF 2018. TAYLOR HAS ALSO BEEN PART OF THE CITIZENS ON PATROL DIVISION. TAYLOR’S FATHER, AN ODESSA POLICE OFFICER IS A GREAT INFLUENCE ON TAYLOR MARTIN’S CAREER PATH.
