Midland, Texas/July 5, 2021-On July 4, 2021 at 10:00 p.m. the Midland Police Department and Midland Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of the 11000 block of SH 191. Officers arrived on scene and located a male, identified as 25-year-old Michael Martin, laying in the eastbound lanes. Martin was pronounced deceased At the scene. The investigation revealed that a blue 2012 Ford F-150 and a gold 2003 Honda Accord were in the 11000 block of Highway 191. Further east on SH 191, was a silver 2007 Chevrolet Silverado.
The Midland Police Department Traffic Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that the blue F-150 was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of SH 191. The gold Honda Accord, driven by Michael Martin of Lubbock, Texas, was traveling east on SH 191 also in the outside lane.
The gold Honda struck the rear of the blue F150 which caused both vehicles to swerve across the inside and spin, coming to rest on the shoulder of the inside lane. The vehicles were now attached to each other and were facing west.
The drivers of the vehicles attempted to detach the vehicles from each other which caused them to further enter the shoulder area and travel lane of SH 191. During the attempt to detach the vehicles from each other Martin was outside his vehicle standing in the roadway. The silver Chevrolet Silverado which was traveling eastbound in the inside lane struck the front of the blue F-150 and also struck Martin.
No other persons were injured in the accident. Next of kin has been notified. The investigation is on-going.
