Odessa, Texas/June 2, 2022-Ector County ISD and Odessa Arts celebrated the 100 years of ECISD with the dedication of a new mural by Koda Witsken at the Ector County ISD Development Center at the corner of 10th and Golder. 

Officials with the City of Odessa and City Council as well as ECISD school board representatives and members of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The mural is described as a representation of ECISD’s past and present and of the district’s belief that “Our Students are Our Future.

The mural colors have a 25 to 30-year lifespan and is coated to protect the mural from extreme West Texas weather and Graffiti.

The location of the mural was chosen by committee that included members of the ECISD school district and Randy Ham, Executive Director of Odessa Arts.

Plans are now underway for more city art projects with one begining some time in September.

Odessa, Texas/February 21, 2022-On Saturday, February 20th, the Black Cultural Council of Odessa hosted the annual black history program, “An Evening With The Stars”. Members of the BCCO, Educators, city and county officals and sponsors attended the black-tie event at the Odessa Marriott.

The Black Cultural Council of Odessa has been hosting the BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM since 1999. The purpose of the annual banquet is to bring recognition to young students for their contributions to the community.

Olympic and professional swimmer, Natalie Hind was invited by the Black Cultural Council of Odessa to be this year’s guest speaker. “Chase Your Dreams was the theme and message to the scholarship recipients.

Odessa, Texas/December 30, 2021-The Odessa Police Department hosted the 4th Annual Chief’s 3-On-3 Youth Basketball Throwdown. Students from the ECISD School District came out to the Odessa High School Gym to register and play in the Basketball Tournament on December 29th.

This annual basketball tournament is a proactive way the Odessa Police Department engages with the youth of the Odessa community through sports.

The 3-On-3 Youth Basketball Throwdown started at 9am and ended in the afternoon Winners in the different age groups were awarded medals.
