DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(022822)-BLACK HISTORY MONTH AT TRAVIS ELEMENTARY IN ODESSA

Odessa, Texas/February 28, 2022-Travis Elementary held a special Black History Month presentation for the 4th grade classes. Students learned of historical African-American icons from decade past. Representatives from the Odessa community were invited to participate at Travis Elementary for the final days of Black History Month.

Former school administrator, Sheila Stevenson encouraged students to achieve goals in academics and in personal lives, she also read a poem that was translated in a dance performance by a student attending U.T.P.B.

Albert Hall, the youth and music minister at First Baptist Church in Stanton, Texas performed the piano and played musical games with the students during the afternoon session.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(120321)-STUDENT CHARGED MAKING THREATS & ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISMISSES CLASSES

Odessa, Texas/December 3, 2021-A student from Nimitz Middle School is now facing a Class A Misdemeanor charge of Threaten/Exhibition Use of a Firearm in a Public School, for saying if he had a gun he would bring it to school and shoot everyone. School leaders and ECISD police dealt with the situation immediately. Upon investigation officers say the student made the statement in frustration and do not believe anyone at the school was in danger.

ECISD officials want parents and students to know that all threats of violence are not a joking matter and will be taken seriously and will have consequences for the student.

Over the past three days, Ireland Elementary staff and students have reported the smell gas inside the building at different times and several have become ill. Odessa Fire & Rescue and Atmos Energy have been on campus multiple times to conduct inspections and have not found any problems with the heating and ventilation systems. It is unknown, for the illnesses. As a precaution Ireland Elementary closed the school for the rest of the day on Friday, December 3rd. It is expected that the school will be back in session on Monday, December 6th.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(102621)-RED RIBBON CEREMONY AT ECTOR COUNTY ISD

Odessa, Texas/October 26, 2021-Ector County ISD held it’s annual Red Ribbon Week-a drug prevention awareness progaram. This program educates school age children of the dangers of drug use and addiction. Red Ribbon Week is also a memorium of DEA Special Agent Enrique “KiKi” Camarena, who was tortured and killed by Mexico’s biggest marijuana and cocaine traffickers in 1985.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office is on the front lines with other law enforcement agencies, combating drug trafficking.

Ector County ISD acknowledges, that drugs are in the school population. The school district has two K-9s that help patrol schools to assist in drug prevention.
