United Way and AT&T Deliver 50 Laptops to Students

Odessa, Texas/March 30, 2024-The United Way of Odessa recently hosted AT&T, Texas Senator Kevin Sparks and community partner agencies celebrating the distribution of refurbished laptops to students that do not have the resources to the much-needed laptops.

The State Legislature has budgeted funding for broadband and to allow nonprofit agencies to partner with companies like AT&T to provide technology and broadband services to students and the elderly.

AT&T provided the 50 refurbished laptops to several nonprofit agencies including the Boys and Girls Club, Catholic Charity Services as well as Odessa College.

Representatives with the United Way of Odessa are hopeful to continue this type of service in the near future to help with students and their academic careers.

Texas Scholars Program Hosted by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce-DRB Media Communications Digital News

Odessa, Texas/October 10, 2022-The Texas Scholar Program is a program of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce for students, 9th thru 12th grade. The Texas Scholar Program encourages students to volunteer and be move involved in the community.

Approximately 150 non-profit agencies have been approved by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce to receive Texas Scholar hours. Twenty agencies participated in the Texas Scholars Program event at the Dick and Amelia Saulsbury Conference Center at Odessa College.

The Odessa Chamber of Commerce began the Texas Scholar Program in 1997 and the program usually starts at the beginning of the school year.

The Texas Scholar Program is not a requirement for students however, a large number of students are already volunteering at approved agencies.
