Midland, Texas/January 4, 2021-During the early morning hours of Monday, January 4, 2021 at approximately 2:00 a.m. the Midland Police Department and Midland Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle crash located in the 2800 block of W. IH-20. The crash involved a blue 1997 Chevrolet Suburban. The driver, identified as 42-year-old, Juan Martin Antonio Cortez of Midland who was the only occupant of the vehicle was found to have been ejected and was deceased.
The Midland Police Department Traffic Unit responded to scene and conducted the accident investigation. The preliminary investigation found that the Suburban had been traveling eastbound on the south service road of IH-20 and had attempted to enter the main lanes of IH-20 via the on ramp. The driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway with the vehicle rolling multiple times, at which point the driver was ejected. The investigation is on-going. Next of kin HAS been notified.
