Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference 2023

Odessa, Texas/June 25, 2023-The Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference hosted by the Odessa Marriott invited Professional women from across the Permian Basin. The purpose of the conference is to educate women deal with stress in the workplace.

Various vendors and exhibitors like message therapy, skin and hair products and care were participating in the event. Guest speakers presented topics on how to elevate stress. Other topics included exercise and nutrition.

The Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference held several breakout sessions that included art. Lilliana Marquez, a local professional artist, guided those that attended the painting session on a step-by-step process of painting a flower.

Organizers with the Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference have begun planning the 2nd annual PWRC event scheduled sometime in 2024.

Odessa City Council and the City of Odessa Re open the Odessa Recycling Center

Odessa, Texas/June 21, 2023-The City of Odessa and the City Council have re-opened the Time Machine Recycling Center located on West 42nd Street. Residents can now drive into the facility and drop off cardboard and plastic into the marked containers.

The City of Odessa had 373 containers for recyclables throughout the community. Approximately 80% of the recyclables that reached the containers ended up in the landfill.

The City of Odessa may be close to an external partner in collecting recyclables and other contaminants, which would decrease costs and save the city money.

Inaugural STEM Summit Hosted by Odessa College

Odessa, Texas/June 16, 2023-The Permian Strategic Partnership and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation recently hosted the first ever STEM Summit at Odessa College. Approximately 80 Educators from across the Permian Basin and West Texas engaged in professional development at OC.

The STEM Summit provided teachers from 22 counties in the Permian Basin with hands on training and valuable networking opportunities. Teachers that participated in the STEM Summit were eligible to earn continuing education credits.

In late September of 2022 Cal Ripken, Jr., American Former Major League Baseball player for the Baltimore Orioles from 1981 to 2001, representing the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and representatives with the Permian Strategic Partnership provided a STEM Kit for a teacher and her classroom students at Pease Elementary School in Odessa, Texas.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in partnership with the Permian Strategic Partnership, has a 5-year plan to bring STEM Centers to 134 schools in the Permian Basin.

The goal of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is to put the STEM program in middle schools and High School.

Odessa, Texas/June 15, 2023-Odessa College and MW Builders held a Topping Out ceremony for the Wood Health Sciences Building in celebration of the competition of the framing process.

Odessa College employees, OC Administrators, members of the OC Board of Trustees, and Wood Health Sciences Building donors wrote messages on the beam before it was lifted and placed in its final position.

The Permian Strategic Partnership is very involved with Odessa College in the advancement of higher learning and in the completion of the 45-million-dollar Wood Health Sciences Building.

The Completion of the Wood Health Sciences Building will be sometime in late 2024.

Ellen Noel Art Museum Hosts Teen Artist Residency Program and Garment/ View Exhibit

Odessa, Texas/June 14, 2023-The Ellen Noel Art Museum recently hosted a special reception for the Teen Artist Residency Program. Students worked with visiting Fiber artist, Tim Gonchoroff. TARP students created an art installation that was displayed in the Muesum’s rotunda. A poem about the art installation was written and read to friends and community members by Jake Hutchins.

Students, who participated, applied for a spot in the TARP program. These students have a desire to learn more and expand their understanding of the arts.

The Ellen Noel Art Museum is also presenting a gallery exhibit called Garment/View on loan from Tim Gonchoroff, who is a self-taught weaver using a wide variety of materials from shopping bags, vinyl advertising banners and other non-traditional materials.

Parks Legado Farmers Market Summer Kick Off

Odessa, Texas/June 11, 2023-Parks Legado kicked off the summer with its annual Farmers Market. Families and residents from Odessa-Midland, Ft. Stockton and from across West Texas and the Permian Basin enjoyed the Saturday morning event.

The Parks Legado Farmers Market had around one hundred vendors offering plants and flowers, arts and crafts fruits and vegetables. Several food trucks were located throughout Parks Legado with a wide selection of menu items.

The Parks Legado Farmers market requires that vendors make or grow or create the items that they wish to sell at the event.
