West Texas Food Bank Receives 4,860 Pounds of Apples from United Family of Supermarkets and Market Street

Odessa, Texas/April 26, 2024-On Wednesday, April 24th, United Supermarkets and Market Street donated 4,860 pounds of apple to the West Texas Food Bank. The donation is part of the “Take a Bite out of Hunger” program.

The United Family and Market Street provide special packages of apples that is sold to store guest that go towards the “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” program 

The United Family has partnered with FirstFruits for 14 years. The two companies have donated more than 600,000 pounds of apples and fed 167, 000 families.

Emergency food boxes are distributed on Wednesdays at the West Texas Food Bank in Odessa, and on Thursdays at the West Texas Food Bank in Midland.

NMC Chef Showdown Culinary Event-Battle for the Golden Skillet Award

Odessa, Texas/March 3, 2024-The Nonprofit Management Center held the NMC Chef Showdown, a new and unique culinary event that brought together local chefs that competed for the BATTLE FOR THE GOLDEN SKILLET Award.

Guests at the Chef Showdown enjoyed live entertainment, interactive cooking demonstrations, and sampled a variety of dishes.

Odessa High School Goes Into Lockdown-Shots Fired In A OHS Parking Lot- One Injured

Odessa, Texas/February 26, 2024-On Monday morning, February 26th, Odessa High School was put into lockdown after a report of a student shot in the parking lot.

One person, believed to be a female student was shot with non-life-threatening injuries. Several ECISD students were taken into custody.

At approximately 11:30am ECISD Police determined Odessa High School was safe and began releasing students. ECISD has announced that a 15-year-old male was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault, Felony 2, Unlawful Carry Weapons, Class A Misdemeanor, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Feleony2

Grand Opening of the James Segrest Stadium and Fitness Court

 

Odessa, Texas/February 6, 2024-Odessa College recently celebrated the Grand Opening of the James Segrest Stadium and Fitness Court. College Staff, Administration and students along with State Representative Brooks Landgraf, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and councilmembers from the City of Odessa were at the special grand opening event.

First Basin Credit Union was recognized at the Grand Opening of the James Segrest Stadium for contributions of 1 million dollars to start the project a couple of years ago. Several areas at the stadium represent the First Basin Credit Union logo.

Cindi Segrest-Williams, daughter of James Segrest, Odessa College Track and Field Coach from 1973 to 1988 participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony and the inaugural walk.

16th Anniversary Spring Drive to Success Kick-off Celebration

Odessa College held the spring Drive to Success student incentive program kick off. OC students, faculty and staff gathered at the Saulsbury Campus Center for the celebration.
