Ector County Commissioners Approve the Sale of E Cigarettes and Pizza to ECDC Inmates

Odessa, Texas/April 12, 2023-On Tuesday, April 11th, during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Ector County Commissioners, the commissioners’ court unanimously approved the sale of e-cigarettes to inmates.

The e-cigarettes are designed and manufactured exclusively for detention centers and contain a barcode for tracking.

The Ector County Detention Center does not permit smoking; the sale of e-cigarettes is a privilege extended to the inmates by the Ector County Sheriff’s Office and will be used as a behavioral tool.

The Ector County Commissioners Court also approved the sale of pizza to inmates at no cost to Ector County.

The e-cigarette and pizza sales to inmates is a creative way the Ector County Sheriff’s Office is fundraising to help with expenditures that are not in sheriff’s office budget.

Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Inducts Hispanic Ambassadors

Odessa, Texas/April 10, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting at the Melody Bakery on Clements Street in south Odessa. 17 community members including local Hispanic business owners and operators were inducted into the Ambassador program within the Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

City of Odessa Hosts Easter Spring Fling at Sherwood Park

Odessa, Texas/April 9, 2023-The City of Odessa hosted the EASTER SPRING FLING at Sherwood Park on Saturday, April 8. Over 40 thousand eggs were provided for the Easter Egg Hunt. Children and families enjoyed coloring activities at the coloring tent and various food vendors at Sherwood Park.

Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month Ceremony at the Ector County Courthouse

Odessa, Texas/April 4, 2023-Harmony Home along with local law enforcement and first responders held the Child Abuse Prevention Awareness ceremony. Mayor Javier Joven read a City Proclamation acknowledging the endless effort by the Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office and advocates for child safety to protect the children of the community from abusers.

Ector County Courthouse Closes-Major Water Damage Due to Failure of a Hot Water Expansion Tank

Odessa, Texas/April 3, 2023-On Monday, April 3rd, Ector County Judge, Dustin Fawcett was notified at approximately 6:40am by an Assistant DA that parts of the Ector County Courthouse were flooded causing the closure of the building.

The water damaged ceiling tiles, carpeting in several courtrooms and offices.  It is unknown if any files or computers were affected or the extent of the damage or the cost.

The Ector County Courthouse, in its current look, is over 60 years old. According to some longtime residents of Odessa, the grey honeycomb exterior was built over the original courthouse sometime in the late 50’s or early 60’s.

Ector County Judge, Dustin Fawcett suggests that a conversation is needed with residents regarding a new courthouse.
