Keep Odessa Beautiful 8th Annual Recycle Fashion Show

Odessa, Texas/October 25, 2023-Keep Odessa Beautiful and the City of Odessa held the 8th annual Keep Odessa Beautiful Recycle Fashion Show. The purpose of the show is to bring awareness to the importance of reducing waste.

Fashion designs were made from various types of recycled materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic. Participants in the show were very creative in their designs from glamour to fantasy.

Keep Odessa Better, Business Bureau and Secured Document Shredding Hold Document Shredding Event

Odessa, Texas/May 7, 2023-On Saturday, May 6th, Keep Odessa Beautiful and The Better Business Bureau teamed up with Secured Document Shredding and invited residents of the Permian Basin out to the Odessa Recycling Center for a document shredding event.

The document shredding event helps residents with limited resources destroy documents they’ve had in storage for many years and help prevent identity theft.

All shredded documents from Saturday’s event will be taken to Butts Recyling to be recycled and keep most of the shredded documents from going to the landfill.

The Better Business Bureau plans to team up with Keep Odessa Beautiful and Secured Document Shredding for another document shredding event next quarter.

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Holds 2nd Annual Community Clean-Up

Odessa, Texas/April 17, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin along with Keep Odessa Beautiful held their 2nd Annual Community Clean-Up. Representatives and members of the BCCPB gathered at the Woodson Boys and Girls Club to begin the clean-up project.

Keep Odessa Beautiful provides information to volunteers and organizations on the health hazards of an unclean community.

Cedric Baty, a student at Sul Ross University who has ties to the south side of Odessa, volunteered his time to make an impact on the community

Zavala Elementary/Keep Odessa Beautiful/Permian Basin Master Gardners Plan Veggie Garden

Odessa, Texas/February 12, 2023-Ector County ISD’s Zavala Elementary has an educational choice program called Careers and Communities, where students learn about different career paths. A career path that was discussed was in the field of nutrition.

Zavala Elementary has selected two areas on campus to create the garden. The issue is the amount of sunlight in these two shaded locations.

The goal is to educate students on planting a garden.  

Potatos, carrots, squash, tomatos herbs and other vegetables are being considered for the garden.

Keep Odessa Beautiful has been working on this project with Zavala Elementary for two years. The goal is to educate children on conservation and repurposing materials in the creation of the garden.

Cavazos Elementary is the next school Keep Odessa Beautiful and the Master Gardeners will be partnering up with in the beautification of the campus with a garden.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(042422)-KOB & BLACK CHAMBER COMMUNITY CLEANUP

Odessa, Texas/April 24, 2022-Keep Odessa Beautiful and the Black Chamber of Commerce Permian Basin along with the Woodson Boys and Girls Club held a community clean-up at Woodson Park and within the surrounding neighborhoods. The City of Odessa also provided a bulky item drop off located in the parking lot at Woodson Park.

The Black Chamber of Commerce Permian Basin and Clayton Homes had volunteers picking up trash and plastic grocery bags within the large vacant lot located in the area of Pool Road and South Dixie near IH-20.
