The One Eleven Project Holds Car Wash Fundraiser Event to Bring Fentanyl Awareness Issue

Odessa, Texas/July 9, 2023-The One-Eleven Project is a nonprofit organization founded by Michelle Watson, that brings awareness to the fentanyl problem affecting the community. The organization held a car wash fundraiser event on Saturday, July 8th at La Playa and Tequilas parking lot. Proceeds raised from the car wash will go towards rehabilitation costs, in-school presentations, print costs and educational materials.

According to The One-Eleven Project 1 person dies from fentanyl every 11 minutes. Michelle Watson lost her 20-year-old son, Malichai to fentanyl and is on a quest to keep his memory alive by educating the public about the dangers of fentanyl.

Several vendors came to support the One-Eleven Project car wash event, selling a wide range of juices, food, collectibles and sporty apparel.

Press Cafe Inside Sewell Ford Lincoln Hosts U.S. Congressman August Pfluger

Odessa, Texas/June 29, 2023-The Press Café located inside Sewell Ford Lincoln located in Parks Legado hosted Coffee with Congressman August Pfluger, who met with residents to talk about issues that are affecting the nation. 

Representatives from the Ector County Commissioners Court, Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, several members of the Odessa City Council and Medical Center Health System board members were at the event.

U.S. Representative Pfluger discussed with supporters, issues that are plaguing the southern border, human trafficking and the increase of drugs especially fentanyl smuggled into the U.S. by the cartels.

Oil and gas was another topic Congressman Pfluger talked about and the economic importance it has on the Permian Basin and West Texas.

Midland Independent School District Introduces Carlos Ortiz as the New MISD Chief of Police

Midland, Texas/June 26, 2023-Stephanie Howard, Superintendent of Schools at Midland ISD introduced Carlos Ortiz, the district’s new Chief of Police. Chief Ortis has 27 years of law enforcement experience and is a recent retiree for the U.S. Border Patrol. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during Operation Desert Storm and Desert Sheild.

MISD Chief of Police Carlos Ortiz plans to increase training and to acquire better equipment to be well prepared in the event of school shooting or emergency.

Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference 2023

Odessa, Texas/June 25, 2023-The Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference hosted by the Odessa Marriott invited Professional women from across the Permian Basin. The purpose of the conference is to educate women deal with stress in the workplace.

Various vendors and exhibitors like message therapy, skin and hair products and care were participating in the event. Guest speakers presented topics on how to elevate stress. Other topics included exercise and nutrition.

The Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference held several breakout sessions that included art. Lilliana Marquez, a local professional artist, guided those that attended the painting session on a step-by-step process of painting a flower.

Organizers with the Professional Women’s Relaxation Conference have begun planning the 2nd annual PWRC event scheduled sometime in 2024.

Odessa City Council and the City of Odessa Re open the Odessa Recycling Center

Odessa, Texas/June 21, 2023-The City of Odessa and the City Council have re-opened the Time Machine Recycling Center located on West 42nd Street. Residents can now drive into the facility and drop off cardboard and plastic into the marked containers.

The City of Odessa had 373 containers for recyclables throughout the community. Approximately 80% of the recyclables that reached the containers ended up in the landfill.

The City of Odessa may be close to an external partner in collecting recyclables and other contaminants, which would decrease costs and save the city money.
