ODESSA, TEXAS/APRIL 15, 2022-DURING THE RECENT MEETING OF THE ODESSA CITY COUNCIL, MAYOR JAVIER JOVEN AND ATTORNEYS WITH THE CITY OF ODESSA MADE AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY ORDNANCE IN AN EFFORT TO STREAMLINE DAILY OPERATIONS OF GAME ROOMS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF ODESSA.

AFTER SIX YEARS IN LITIGATION THE SECOND COURT OF APPEALS FAVORED THE CITY OF FT. WORTH’S POSISTION ON EIGHT-LINERS. THE SECOND COURT OF APPEALS OPINED THAT GAMING DEVICES KNOW AS EIGHT-LINERS ARE UNCONSTITUTIONAL LOTTERIES.

THE REMOVAL OF GAME ROOMS FROM THE CITY OF ODESSA WOULD BRING RELIEF TO CONCERENED RESIDENTS, BUT WOULD HAVE A SOMEWHAT NEGATIVE IMPACT PROPERTY OWNERS LEASING TO GAME ROOM OPERATORS.

THE ODESSA CITY COUNCIL VOTED 5 TO 1 TO TABLE THE AGENDA ITEM FOR FURTHER STUDY. GAME ROOMS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE NEXT ODESSA CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION ON TUESDAY, APRIL 19TH, AT 3PM.

Midland,Texas/April 14, 2022-The Pre-K Academy at Midland College celebrated the last day of school before the Easter break with an egg hunt. The Easter Bunny came out to the Easter Egg hunt to meet the little ones.

The Pre-K Academy has a total of 68 kids, 34 3-year-olds and 34 4-year-olds, each of the age groups participated in the Easter Egg Hunt and other in-classroom activities.

Odessa, Texas/April 13, 2022-The Young Professionals of Odessa hosted the school bond PAC presentation at the Complex Community Credit Union Training Center. Odessa residents were invited to the luncheon to hear Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at Ector County ISD and Loraine Perryman present facts on the school bond proposal and upcoming school bond election in May 2022.

Midland, Texas/April 11, 2022-The Midland Legacy High School Bar-B-Que team is getting ready to compete in Waco in the latter part of April. On Monday, April 11th, the LHS AG Team members had a warn-up competition on campus.

Students prepared and fired up their Bar-B-Que pits around 7:00am for practice. Meat categories include: steaks, burgers, chicken and ribs, as well as desserts.

The Midland Legacy High School Bar-B-Que Team is hoping to make it to state competition and compete at Sullivan University this summer.

Odessa, Texas/April 9, 2022-Heather and Patrick Chadwick are reaching out to the Odessa community and inviting residents to a fundraising event on Sunday, April 10th, from 4pm to 7pm. The fundraiser called CRAWFISH FOR EMMA will help raise funds their 3-year-old daughter who has a rare form of epilepsy.

Patrick Chadwick is a Sergeant with the Odessa Police Department, and is assigned to a rotating shift. While out on patrol he is waiting for the one call from his family or Emma’s nurse that Emma is having a problem and needs help.

KCNT1-related epilepsy is an ultra-rare, infant-onset seizure disorder caused by mutations in the KCNT1 gene. Some cases lead to severe seizures, and is unresponsive to medications.

Odessa, Texas/April 8, 2022-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2022 Entrepreneur of the Year and Business Hall of Fame Luncheon at the Odessa Marriott. Prior to the presentation of the Business Entrepreneur of the Year, Four Odessa Business owners were inducted into the Business Hall of Fame.

Robert M. Chavez was introduced to the members of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Representatives and elected officials of the City of Odessa and Ector County and guest as the 2022 Entrepreneur of the Year.
