Odessa City Council Approve 5 to 2 Amending Bathroom Ordinance

Odessa, Texas/October 26, 2024-During the recent Odessa City Council meeting, the council discussed amending Section 8-1-6 “Entering restroom of opposite sex” of the city code of ordinances. The amendment would protect the safety and privacy in restroom facilities for women and girls in public buildings.

The Odessa City Council voted 5 to 2 in favor of amending Entering Restroom of Opposite Sex” city ordinance. After the City Council meeting, a request for an interview with Councilman, District 5 Chris Hanie was declined by councilman Hanie.

UTPB Public Leadership Forum

Odessa, Texas/October 25, 2024-The University of Texas Permian Basin held the UTPB’s Shepperd Leadership Institute and Career Services for a Public Forum. The event featured local and elected officials including State Representative Brooks Landgraf along with UTPB students and staff.

Gun Owners of America Texas Bus Tour Makes Stop in Odessa, Tx

Odessa, Texas/October 14, 2024-Gun Owners of America one of the largest lobby groups in the U.S. initiated the NO COMPROMISE BUS TOUR traveling to communities across Texas raising awareness and the importance of the 2nd Amendment recently made a stop in Odessa at the Ector County Coliseum.

Retired United States Navy Commander Jay Furman, the GOP Nominee for the Texas 28th Congressional District took time off from the campaign trail to join the NO COMPROMISE-Gun Owners of America Texas Bus Tour.

OHFC Host 10-Year Angelversary in Remembrance of Hunter Miller

Odessa, Texas/October 13, 2024-The Odessa Housing Finance Corporation hosted a 10-year Angelversary event in remembrance of Hunter Miller, who passed away in a car crash in 2014. A mural was unveiled to invited guest and corporation staff painted on the northside of the OHFC building. The mural is a composite of Hunter Miller’s young life.

Hunter Miller, known as a kind, inspiring and generous teen was an organ donor. At his passing he improved the quality-of-life for other people needing life-saving organs.

Odessa, Texas/October 12, 2024-The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on Thursday, October 10th to hear from 4 firms specializing in searching and acquiring new superintendents for school districts.

The 4 firms HYA Corporation, JG Consulting, Texas Association of School Boards and Walsh Gallegos Kyle Robinson & Roalson P.C. perform a statewide and a nationwide search for qualified candidates for ECISD Superintendent.

The ECISD School Board was impressed with each of the firms’ presentations. The school board is now tasked with choosing the best firm that will be the most effective for the school district.

The Ector County ISD school board will decide at the next school board meeting on October 15th, which firs will represent Ector County ISD in finding a new superintendent.

Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Celebrating 40th Anniversary

Odessa, Texas/October 11, 2024-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin celebrated their 40th Anniversary and the 34th Annual Ebony Bar Awards. Members of the Black Chamber along with Odessa College, UTPB, The Odessa Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and other institutions joined the special celebration.
