Friends of Kellus Turner Park 1st Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange

Odessa, Texas/December 24, 2024-Friends of Kellus Turner Park had their 1st Annual Christmas Cookie Exchange. The Families and children were invited to participate in a cookie decoration activity and the cookie exchange later in the day.

Children visited the Ector County ISD Mobil Inspiration Station and were able to apply for an Ector County Library Card and check out books. Families to enjoyed fun activities during the morning and purchased food items from the participating food truck.

Daniel and Savanah Morales owners of Masa Bakery provided the cookies and the cookie decoration kits for the Kellus Turner Park Christmas Event.

A Scandanavian Viking Traveled to Texas to Do Storytime

Odessa, Texas/April 11, 2024-The Ector County Library Hosted Kid’s Storytime featuring Dr. Jan Gustafsson, associated professor of Latin American studies at the University of Copenhagen. The Kid’s Storytime event was sponsored by a grant provided by the TEGNA Foundation.

Professor and author, Jan Gustafsson talked about his experience and the enjoyment of reading at an early age.

 The Latin American series is an activity organized every semester by The University of Texas Permian Basin. Authors are invited to the come to the Permian Basin to discuss issues affecting Latin America and the U.S.

Odessa, Texas/April 6, 2022-The Ector County library committee held an English and Spanish community forum to discuss a new library and modernize library content. The current 3 story library is several decades old and outdated, and difficult to staff.

The Ector County Library Committee discussed with residents a public library that would provide the needs of the community with programs and services for the next 30 years.

Ector County Commissioner, Precinct 4, Armando Rogriguez, would like to see the new library as a multi-purpose facility. Providing visitors with restaurants and retail stores within or around the new library.

The estimated population of Latino residents in Ector County is at or above 60%. The Ector County Library only provides 5% of Spanish language books and literature.

The Ector County Library Committee visited the Midland Centennial Library to gather information regarding staff, applications for library cards, programs and other services.
