DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(021822)-OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING AT ACE CHECK EXPRESS

Odessa, Texas/February 18, 2022-On Thursday, February 17, 2022, at approximately 3:36 PM, officers responded to an armed subject at Ace Check Express, located at 1305 of E. 8th St. Inside the shopping center of 8th and the private drive of Echo near EL RANCHO Supermarket. When officers arrived, they observed the armed subject, who then evaded officers in a vehicle. The subject drove around the commercial complex, and eventually went back to 1305 E. 8th St and entered the business with a firearm.   The subject fired his weapon inside the business. An Odessa Police officer rushed towards the business, the subject then fired a shot at him. The officer returned fire to stop the threat of harm. 

 The subject involved has been identified as John Michael Humphries, a 45-year-old, white male. The subject was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The officer involved did not sustain any injury,and has been placed on administrative leave. 

 The officer involved shooting has been turned over to the Texas Rangers for further investigation.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(120521A)-ODESSA PD INVESTIGATE DEADLY SHOOTING-ONE TEEN DEAD

Odessa, Texas/December 5, 2021-Odessa Police made an arrest in connection with an early morning shooting that left one teen dead.

On Saturday morning, December 4th at approximately 12:58 am, Officers with the Odessa Police Department responded to a call of a gunshot victim at Medical Center Hospital. Jaziah Marruffo, 19 years of age, succumbed to his injuries as result of a gunshot wound.

During the investigation it was determined that Marruffo was riding with several teens inside a vehicle, when one of the juveniles inside the vehicle possessing a handgun, shot him. A subsequent investigation identified the vehicle and teens involved.

A 16 year old male was charged with Murder, and tampering with physical evidence. A second juvenile has been charged with tampering with physical evidence and two counts of possession of stolen property, that property being two handguns. Both were transported to the Ector County Youth Center.

Next of kin has been notified.
