Odessa, Texas/May 15, 2022-Odessa Fire-Rescue and the Odessa Police Department held their First Annual Field to Shield recruiting fair. Both first responder agencies invited Ector County ISD Juniors and Seniors and the entire community to come out to Odessa City Hall and see various life-saving demonstrations and techniques.

The Fire Technology Department at Odessa College offers classes and training in firefighting and EMT certification for students seeking a career as a first responder.

The Odessa Police Department displayed the SWAT TEAM armored vehicles, the mobile high tech Command Center and the Odessa Police Department’s Crime Scene Unit. ECISD High School students had the opportunity to talk OPD Officers and ask questions.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(032522)GRASS FIRE NEAR WTFB IN SOUTHEAST ODESSA

Odessa, Texas/March 25, 2022-A grass fire occurred in the early afternoon hours in a vacant field in the area of Galloway and South Pagewood, west of the West Texas Food Bank. Several Odessa Fire Rescue units were at the scene containing the fire and monitoring hots spots, that could affect businesses in the area, including a beer and beverage distributing facility near the grass fire. It is unknown at this time what was the cause of the grass fire.

Odessa, Texas/February 27, 2022-The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints hosted the annual Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, February 26th. Visitors to the event were able to talk to local law enforcement agencies and first responders on how to prepare for emergencies.

Visitors were able to participate in a Q & A during a presentation on an active shooter situation. Various non-profit organizations like the Red Cross handed out information on various programs available to the community.

The Emergency Preparedness Fair featured a wide variety of seminars from life-saving techniques to growing produce.

The Emergency Preparedness Fair is usually scheduled during the month of September, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic was postponed. The next Emergency Preparedness Fair is scheduled for September of 2023.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(102321)-CITY OF ODESSA & 1ST RESPONDERS TRUNK OR TREAT EVENT

Odessa, Texas/October 23, 2021-The City of Odessa, The Odessa Police Department, The Ector County Sheriff’s Office and Odessa Fire Rescue hosted a Trunk or Treat event for the entire family Saturday morning, October 23rd, at the Odessa City Hall and First Baptist Church parking lot. TxDot and other agencies handed out candy and provided information to families on safety and services.

The Ector County Sheriff’s Office provide candy, coloring books and t-shirts to children attending the event. Sheriff Mike Griffis said that events like Trunk or Treat brings the community together.
