Beloved Odessa Family YMCA Personal Trainer & Her Husband Recovering from Kidney Transplant Surgery

Odessa, Texas/February 18, 2024-Judie Porras, a personal trainer at the Odessa Family YMCA has returned home with her husband Javier Aguirre after being away for over a month for kidney transplant surgery. That was performed at the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital in San Antonio. Judie was able to donate her kidney to her husband, being a perfect match.

After returning from San Antonio Javier developed complications causing fear that Javier’s body was rejecting Judie’s Kidney.

Judie’s recovery from kidney transplant surgery has been very impressive. Her top physical fitness has aided in her recovery.

Judie’s husband Javier is no longer on dialysis but must have check-ups for the remainder of his life.

Midland County Drug Court Celebrate 19 Graduates

Midland, Texas/May 9, 2023-Midland County Drug Court celebrated another round of drug court graduations. 19 graduates successfully completed the programs from the three courts.

The evening’s event featured several graduates speaking on being treated as a human being despite the fact they have an addiction, their road to sobriety and spiritual inspiration that helped them through their most difficulty moments.

Jobs Not Jail Presentation at OC & Odessa College 15th Annual OC Honors Featuring Father Greg Boyle

Odessa, Texas/November 18, 2022-Odessa College recently presented “Jobs Not Jail: The Teachings of Father Greg Boyle. This one-time presentation was held at the OC Sports Center. Father Boyle provided information on life skills, jobs and hope to former gang members and ex-felons through the Homeboy Industries.

Father Boyle witnessed the devastating impact of gang violence on his community during the so-called “Decade of Death” that began in the late 1980s and peaked in 1992. Father Boyle his parish and community members adopted what was a radical approach at the time: treat gang members as human beings.

Big Texas Rally For Recovery/Thriving United-DRB Media Communications Digital News

Midland, Texas/September 26, 2022-The month of September is National Recovery Month and is celebrated internationally on September 30th.  

Thriving United, a non-profit organization celebrating its 3rd year serving the Midland Community and helping those with various type of addictions find a road to recovery.

On Saturday, September 24th THRIVING UNITED along with various non-profit organizations invited the community to join the Big Texas Rally for Recovery in Midland and honor those in addiction or mental health that are on their way to recovery.

Representatives with Thriving United responded to the need in the community for people seeking recovery, especially single mothers needing a place stay and get resources to get them back on their feet

Odessa, Texas/March 10, 2022-VFW Post 4372 in Odessa, Texas presented a check to the Luis Tijerina Foundation. This foundation helps individuals and veterans in the community who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

The check presented was in the amount of $1 thousand 130 dollars in addition to other funds raised by the Luis Tijerina Foundation.
