Ink Masters Tattoo Show and Expo 2023

Odessa, Texas/March 5, 2023-Ink Masters Tattoo held the 9th annual Tattoo Show Expo at the Ector County Coliseum in Barn G. 

The show featured live tattooing, jumpers for the kids, a wide variety of vendors and artist from across the state of Texas and from across the U.S.

Artists that are invited to the Tattoo Expo must present their portfolio of work to the organizers to be considered for a spot at the Tattoo Expo.

The popularity of body art has gone from stereotypes to the professional. Artists create elaborate designs that take hours to reproduce on skin.

Anything that comes in contact with bodily fluids as in tattoo needles cannot be sterilized, must be disposed of as medical waste.

Organizers say that some colleges recognize the popularity of body art and offer tattooing as an art curriculum.

Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Celebrate Their 1st Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at The Hair Academy

Odessa, Texas/March 5, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently held its first ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating THA-The Hair Academy, located at 4555 East University Blvd.

Brian Nuñez, Owner and instructor at The Hair Academy has had a passion for cutting hair since the age of 17. The road to opening his own business and teaching the art of cutting hair has been a long and winding road.

The Hair Academy currently has 30 students in their barber and cosmetology school and plan to enroll ten more students in April. Students at the Hair Academy can take their state exams at THA.

Ector County ISD Annual State of the District Event

Odessa, Texas/March 3, 2023-On Thursday, March 2nd, Ector County ISD hosted the annual State of the District. The presentation featured the significant progress made on multiple strategic plan initiatives presented by Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at ECISD.

The Ector County ISD’s school board spent more than a year working with school district employees, business leaders, and community members developing a strategic plan. In year three the plan led to several improvements like ECISD rated a “B” by the Texas Education Agency, overall academic growth and more.

United Supermarkets Donates 1,000 Pairs of Socks to the Salvation Army Through Pears for Pairs

Odessa, Texas/March 3, 2023-On Wednesday, March 1st United Supermarkets donated one thousand pairs of socks to the Salvation Army, through the “Pears for Pairs” campaign. 

The United Family has helped make this donation in the Permian Basin for 4 years.

During the fall months in 2022 a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of Rainier Fruits pears and apples went towards the purchase of brand news socks for the homeless community.

Throughout the four years, guests have participated in helping raise funds for socks. The United Family and Rainier Fruit are able to donate a total of 5, 000 socks to charitable organizations across the state of Texas.

Black History Month Finale-African Art Exhibit at St James Missionary Baptist Church

Odessa, Texas/March 1, 2023-During the latter part of Black History Month an exhibit of African art was held at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Odessa. The exhibit featured a pencil and ink sketches of African American icons of the Civil Rights movement era, various African Culture collections.

Several residents provided African art, Ebony and Jet magazines representing the African American culture in entertainment and other pieces to the exhibit.
