Odessa, Texas/October 12, 2024-The Ector County ISD Board of Trustees held a special board meeting on Thursday, October 10th to hear from 4 firms specializing in searching and acquiring new superintendents for school districts.

The 4 firms HYA Corporation, JG Consulting, Texas Association of School Boards and Walsh Gallegos Kyle Robinson & Roalson P.C. perform a statewide and a nationwide search for qualified candidates for ECISD Superintendent.

The ECISD School Board was impressed with each of the firms’ presentations. The school board is now tasked with choosing the best firm that will be the most effective for the school district.

The Ector County ISD school board will decide at the next school board meeting on October 15th, which firs will represent Ector County ISD in finding a new superintendent.

Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Celebrating 40th Anniversary

Odessa, Texas/October 11, 2024-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin celebrated their 40th Anniversary and the 34th Annual Ebony Bar Awards. Members of the Black Chamber along with Odessa College, UTPB, The Odessa Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and other institutions joined the special celebration.

This year the Ebony Bar Awards were presented to black medical professionals that have been trailblazers in our community and who have made a major impact keeping residents of Odessa and Ector County healthy.

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin introduced guest speaker Dr. Jacobi Cleaver, OD, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Chief Program Officer-Black Eyecare Perspective, gave a lighthearted presentation on the importance of eyecare.

Odessa College Celebrates Record Enrollment with $10,000 Giveaway

Odessa, Texas/October 8, 2024-Odessa College recently announced that the fall enrollment is approaching the milestone of 10 thousand students. Odessa College, in partnership with the Sewell Family of Companies, will be giving away $10,000 to one lucky enrolled student.

The Fall 2 term begins October 16th, and as part of this celebration, on October 24th, OC will select 10 finalists from the pool of 10 thousand students.

Mary Ellis Receives an Air & Heating System from the Lennox Foundation-Feel the Love Program

Odessa, Texas/October 8, 2024-Mega Care Solutions Air Conditioning and Heating Services in partnership with the Lennox Foundation-FEEL THE LOVE Program provides a cooling and heating system to a household in need.

Mary Ellis, also known as ‘Miss Mary’ was selected to receive an air conditioning and heating system from the Lennox Foundation’s FEEL THE LOVE program. Mary Ellis organized yearly fashion shows hosted by Odessa College to raise funds for nonprofit organizations to help with breast cancer awareness.

Mary Ellis went through heart surgery; she experienced other health issues that caused her to lose her fashion store Mary’s Fashions and her income.

The Lennox Foundation “FEEL THE LOVE” Program provided the new high-efficiency Lennox air conditioning and heating system at no cost to the recipient. Mega Care Solutions Air Conditioning & Heating Services provided the labor and installation of the equipment.

Nayely Urias, Candidate for Odessa City Council District 2 Holds Meet & Greet Event

Odessa, Texas/October 7, 2025-Nayely Urias, a candidate for Odessa City Council, District 2 held a meet and greet and fundraising event hosted by Jack Jordan’s Bar-B-Que. Members of the local Republican Party and guests came out to support the District 2 Candidate.

The Ector County Republican Party under the leadership of Party Chair, Donna Kelm held a pancake breakfast at the ECRP Headquarters for 1st Responders that included the Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and other local law enforcement agencies.
