Odessa City Council Terminates City Manager and City Attorney-Overview

Odessa, Texas/December 15, 2022-On Tuesday evening, December 12th, the Odessa City Council held its regular scheduled meeting. After the Proclamations, Presentations and the Awards section of the agenda, Mayor Javier Joven and the council addressed and discussed the terminations of the City Attorney and the City Manager. The Odessa City Council voted 5 to 2 for the termination of the City Manager, Michael Marrero and 5 to 2 on the termination of City Attorney Natasha Brooks.

After the termination of the City Attorney and City Manager a dispute and shouting exchange erupted between Mayor Javier Joven and attorney Gavin Norris.

Former Odessa City Council members Filiberto Gonzales and Deitra White, Hispanic Heritage of Odessa director, Carol Uranga, as well as Gene Collins addressed Mayor Joven and the City Council and voiced their opposition to the termination of employment of Michael Marrero and Natasha Brooks.

Gavin Norris addressed the City Council and declared a federal law suit against the city and each member of the City Council. Norris, then called out Councilman, District 1 Mark Matta of not representing properly District 1 which is in the southside of Odessa.

Casey Hallmark, Executive Director of Downtown Odessa, Inc made accusations of alleged bullying by Mayor Javier Joven and by Odessa City Councilman, District 5 Chris Hanie against her as well as other accusations.

Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Hosts 2nd Annual Jingle Mixer

Midland, Texas/December 13, 2022-The Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently hosted their 2nd Annual Jingle Mixer. The entry fee for large and small businesses and guests was a toy or warm blanket. Toys were donated to TOYS FOR TOTS, and the blankets were donated to the seniors at SeniorLife.

The Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce currently has over 100 members. The Jingle Mixer was also a membership drive for individuals and businesses.

Odessa, Texas/December 12, 2022-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce held their annual Holiday Open House, at the Chamber of Commerce offices at the Bank of America building located in downtown Odessa. Local business representatives, City of Odessa and Ector County officials and guests enjoyed a variety of finger foods and drinks.

Midland, Texas/December 12, 2022-The Midland Victims Coalition recently held the annual “Angel Memorial Tree” ceremony at the Midland Centennial Public Library. This ceremony honors the victims of homicide and celebrate their families.

Annual YMCA Leaning Center Breakfast with the Grinch Fundraising Event

Odessa, Texas/December 10, 2022-The YMCA Learning Center in Odessa held its annual Breakfast with the Grinch fundraising event. The YMCA Learning Center has a Pre-K program, and is in partnership with Ector County ISD, focusing on early childhood and kindergarten readiness.

Families enjoyed a breakfast buffet that included pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and much more. MCM Elegant hosted the fundraising event that featured beautiful Christmas decorations.
