Lowriders Against Bullying Car Show and Concert

Odessa, Texas/August 21,2023-On Saturday, August 19th, “Lowriders Against Bulling Car Show” held its 4th annual anti-bulling event in downtown Odessa. The event featured a lowrider competition and awards ceremony and guest speakers.

Kids enjoyed playing in the jumper and rides. Families tasted a wide variety of food from several food truck vendors. The car show portion of the event featured lowriders from car clubs from around the Permian Basin, the State of Texas and from New Mexico.

Middle School and elementary school kids were at the event and expressed their worries when they see bullying.

Odessa City Council Introduces New City Manager

Odessa, Texas/August 17, 2023-Mayor Javier Joven and members of the Odessa City Council formally introduced in council chambers, John Beckmeyer as the new City Manager.

Mr. Beckmeyer has been working as city manager for a little over a week and has been visiting the city of Odessa departments and department heads and employees. The new city manager refers to all staff as “Team Members”

Odessa City Councilman, District 1, Mark Matta is very pleased with the selection of John Beckmeyer as the new city manager.

This past March the Odessa City Council and T2 Consulting held Benchmarks meetings to come up with requirements and expectations the council wanted in a city manager. A couple of the requirements: A bachelor’s degree in a related area or 3 to 5 years of experience as a department head or city manager.

Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Celebrate a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Brizy’s Barbershop

Odessa, Texas/August 10, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Brizy’s Barbershop located at 1005 Maple Ave.  

Members of the Hispanic Chamber and its Ambassadors celebrated with Brianna Lopez, her family, friends, staff and her pastors during the special ribbon cutting ceremony.

Ector County ISD Welcomes Students Back to School

West Odessa-Ector County/Odessa, Texas/August 9, 2023-Ector County ISD welcomed students to the first day of school at several elementary schools across the district: Jordan Elementary, Burleson Elementary and Carver.

Students at Buddy West Elementary in West Odessa were excited to see old friends and making new friends as well as meeting the new first year teacher.

Five Students Receive a $1,200 Scholarship from the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter

Odessa, Texas/August 8, 2023-The Panamerican Golf Association, Odessa Chapter held a scholarship awards presentation on Monday, August 7th.  

Irish Manlucot , a Nursing Student at Odessa College-Received a $1,200 scholarship from the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter and Nathaniel Sims, who recently graduated from the Richard Milburn Academy in Odessa also received a $1,200 from the PAGA-Odessa Chapter.

The scholarship money that was raised came from a golf tournament the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter recently held in Monahans.

Odessa Police Department Block Party at Floyd Gwin Park-Back to School Themed Event

Odessa, Texas/August 6, 2023-On Saturday, August 5th, the Odessa Police Department held their annual Block Party at Floyd Gwin Park located at 10th and County Rd. West. Over 200 people came out to the fun family event. Backpacks were handed out to students on a first come first serve basis for the first day of school.

Visitors to Odessa Police Department’s Block Party enjoyed games, Jumpers, Hot Dogs, Chips and drinks, popcorn and other treats, and were able to participate in fun give a-ways.

Several non-profit agencies were at the OPD Block Party in the PAL Gym handing out candy and information. Kids, Moms and Dads got to see the OPD SWAT armored vehicles, personal protective hardware and tactical gear.
