Odessa Family YMCA Enjoys Successful Comedy Show Fundraiser

Odessa, Texas/April 22, 2024-The Odessa Family YMCA recently held “Giggles and Give” a comedy fundraiser event featuring Comedian Lucas Bohn at the Ector Theatre to raise money for programs the Y offers to the community at large.

The comedy fundraiser featured a silent auction with various prizes, that included weekend get-away prize packages.

The Odessa Family YMCA Giggles and Give Comedy show also featured singer/songwriter Robert Sullivan, who performed covers of 90’s Country songs as well as original tunes.

Representatives with the Odessa Family YMCA estimated that the Giggles and Give Comedy Show starring Lucas Bohn raised around $5 thousand dollars.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce Celebrate the 2024 Co-Entrepreneurs of the Year

Odessa, Texas/April 21, 2024-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce celebrating its 90th Anniversary held 2024 Co-Entrepreneurs of the Year and Business Hall of Fame Luncheon at the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center.

Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 1st Annual Business Expo at the Midland County Horeshoe Pavillion

Midland, Texas/April 21, 2024-The Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held a Business Expo at the Horseshoe Pavillion. Nonprofit organizations and non-Hispanic chamber businesses provided information on products and services.

Odessa College and the UT Permian Basin Recognized as Steinway Spirio Institutions

Odessa-Midland, Texas/April 14, 2024-Odessa College recently hosted representatives from Steinway and Sons during a special recognition ceremony at the college. OC is recognized as one of only a few institutions in the U.S. to earn the distinction as an “All-Steinway Spirio Institution.

The Steinway Spirio demonstration included a collaboration with New York pianist Michael Cabe, who performed live from New York City.

The Steinway Spirio presentation also featured an Odessa College music faculty member, and an OC music student who performed an excerpt from Waltz in C sharp minor by Chopin. 

The University of Texas of the Permian is also recognized as an All-Steinway Spirio Institution. UTPB became an All-Steinway Spirio school in 2012 and acquired three pianos in 2022.

Hispanic Heritage of Odessa and L U L A C Present Señoritas Hispanas 2024 at Odessa College

Odessa, Texas/April 13, 2024-Odessa College recently hosted Senoritas Hispanas 2024 an event sponsored by Hispanic Heritage of Odessa and L.U.L.A.C. Female students from secondary schools from Ector County ISD participated in the empowerment workshop that covered topics that included: personal finances, art, self-forgiveness.

Odessa College Wrangle Promise Director and the Financial Aid Director introduced to the workshop participants the Wrangler Promise and what financial aid is and the importance of having a plan as students prepare for college.

A Scandanavian Viking Traveled to Texas to Do Storytime

Odessa, Texas/April 11, 2024-The Ector County Library Hosted Kid’s Storytime featuring Dr. Jan Gustafsson, associated professor of Latin American studies at the University of Copenhagen. The Kid’s Storytime event was sponsored by a grant provided by the TEGNA Foundation.
