Education Partnership of the Permian Basin Launches the Permian Basin Innovation Zone

Midland, Texas/October 19, 2023-The Education Partnership of the Permian Basin launched the Permian Basin Innovation Zone also known as PBIZ. This ground-breaking collaborative is designed to expand opportunities to Rual students in the Permian Basin.

McCamey ISD, Buena Vista ISD, Grandfalls-Royality ISD, and Crane ISD in partnership with Odessa College and Midland College will create pathways to provide high-level, high-quality education opportunities for rural students.

Annular Solar Eclipse 2023 Viewing Party at Odessa College Downtown

Odessa, Texas/October 15, 2023-On Saturday, October 14th, Mayor Javier Joven, residents of Odessa and surrounding communities came out to the various Annular Solar Eclipse 2023 viewing parties around the city. OC staff, educators and Dr. Gregory Williams president of Odessa College along with families set up lawn chairs at Odessa College Downtown to watch the solar eclipse.

Hispanic Heritage of Odessa Recognizing Hispanic Medical Professionals

Several local Hispanic doctors and medical support personnel and Home Healthcare agencies were recognized.

City of Odessa Held Special Memorial Wall Ceremony

Odessa, Texas/October 13, 2023-The City of Odessa held a special ceremony in the east parking lot of City Hall to honor those employees who have served the City of Odessa. A past Mayor and City Council administration that included then Councilman Javier Joven came up with the idea to create a memorial wall to honor those city employees that have since passed away.

National Night Out 2023-First Presbyterian Church/Iglesia De Amor Church

Odessa, Texas/September 5, 2023-Several churches, neighborhoods, apartment complexes and organizations celebrated the 2023 National Night Out on Tuesday, September 3rd despite the early afternoon stormy weather. 

The Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue visited with residents at The First Presbyterian Church located at 1401 N. Sam Houston Ave.

Iglesia de Amor Church on 1609 W. 10th, hosted National Night at the storefront church location. Hispanic residents who live near the church came out to see the Crime Scene Mobile Lab, OPD Units and the Odessa Fire Rescue Fire Trucks and Ambulance.

Benito & Teresa Ramos Ector County Library Exhibit/Hispanic Heritage Month Festivities

Odessa, Texas/October 2, 2023-Hispanic Heritage Month is currently underway with a wide variety of activities now through October 15th. The Ector County Library hosted a sneak peek of the life of Benito and Teresa Ramos. The small display features tools used for carpentry and Teresa’s artwork. Benito and Teresa Ramos were decades-long residents of Odessa living on the south side on the infamous Magnolia Street.

The descendants of Benito and Teresa Ramos want visitors who come to the exhibit to get a snapshot of the life and times, struggles and successes of the Ramos Family.

Long time southside of Odessa residents were treated to a luncheon hosted by Ajuua’s Mexican Food Restaurant and several home healthcare medical companies. Residents talked about life in their early years living in Odessa.
