National Night Out 2023-First Presbyterian Church/Iglesia De Amor Church

Odessa, Texas/September 5, 2023-Several churches, neighborhoods, apartment complexes and organizations celebrated the 2023 National Night Out on Tuesday, September 3rd despite the early afternoon stormy weather. 

The Odessa Police Department and Odessa Fire Rescue visited with residents at The First Presbyterian Church located at 1401 N. Sam Houston Ave.

Residents who live around or near the Church enjoyed Hot Dogs, Chips and Drinks. Kids got to see the first responder vehicles up-close.

Iglesia de Amor Church on 1609 W. 10th, hosted National Night at the storefront church location. Hispanic residents who live near the church came out to see the Crime Scene Mobile Lab, OPD Units and the Odessa Fire Rescue Fire Trucks and Ambulance.

Iglesia De Amor Church pastors believe in the importance of having a good relationship with local law enforcement and first responders to bring the community together.

Several National Night Out block parties were held throughout the City of Odessa featuring a wide selection of Eats and Treats.

Westminster Presbyterian Church Food Box Distribution Event

 

Odessa, Texas/July 30, 2023-On Saturday, July 29th, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa held its monthly food distribution event. Cars began lining up at 7:30am from the Church’s west parking lot around Tanglewood street. Westminster Presbyterian Church provides this service to those in need within the city and county.

The food distribution event is scheduled on the last Saturday of the month with the exception for Thanksgiving and Christmas, food boxes are given out prior to the holidays. The boxes are loaded up on Thursday prior to the event.

Westminster Presbyterian Church members and volunteers from across the community that included a former University president, educators and employees from the local school district came out to help with the food box distribution event.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce Hosts UT AUSTIN-Home To Texas Internship Program

Odessa, Texas/July 28, 2023-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce hosted HOME TO TEXAS, an internship program created by the University of Texas at Austin was held at the Odessa Marriott. The fulltime internship program began in 2019 and is designed to bring young UTA students back to their communities.

Savannah Muñiz has a passion for science and is a 2d year Biochemistry and 2nd year Sophomore student at UT Austin and plans to go to medical school and seek a career in Oncology. Savannah is an intern through the HOME TO TEXAS program at the Odessa Marriott.

Aksahathh Mukkera is a Biochemistry student at UT Austin and is a full-time intern at the Odessa Chamber of Commerce.

William Cole is Government student with an emphasis on Political theory at the University of Texas at Austin. William is an intern in the City Attorney’s Office in Big Spring and plans to go to law school after taking a break after graduation.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce 2023 Entrepreneur of the Year and Business and Hall of Fame Luncheon

Odessa, Texas/April 10, 2023-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce recently held the 2023 Entrepreneur of the Year and Business Hall of Fame Luncheon. This luncheon recognizes business owners and leaders who promote the City of Odessa and give back to the community.

2nd Annual Turkey Leg Tussle Domino Tournament-Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin

Odessa, Texas/November 26, 2022-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin, hosted the 2nd Annual Turkey Leg Tussle Domino Tournament at the Woodson Boys & Girls Club. 14 teams a total of 28 players participated in the in this competitive event, that is scheduled on the Saturday after Thanksgiving Day.

The Turkey Leg Tussle is a community event and invites domino players from the Odessa community to just come out and register to play.

The 2nd Annual Turkey Leg Tussle and the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin is a meet & greet event to reach out to new African-American business that are making a positive impact in southside Odessa.

Odessa, Texas/November 8, 2022-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held their 32nd Annual Ebony Bar Awards at the MCM Grande Hotel and Fundome. This year, Southside Clergy were recognized for their contributions to the spiritual growth of church members in the southside community.

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Ebony Bar Awards featured guest speaker, Miller Bargeron, Jr. From Savanah, Georgia. Mr. Bargeron is a filmmaker, Mindset Intergration Specialist, Motivational Speaker and Author. His current film “Stubborn as a Mule” is an award-winning documentary available on YouTube. Earlier this year he began production on Odessa’s own internationally known doo wop group “The Velvets” documentary.
