Odessa Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Honoring David Duree

Odessa, Texas/February 4, 2023-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce held the 2022 Citizen of The Year luncheon honoring David Duree. Mr. Duree has served the Odessa community through business and volunteerism.

David Duree was born in Crane, Texas in 1957. He graduated from Permian High School, earned an Associates degree from Odessa College and a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas Permian Basin in 1981

The Citizen of the Year is chosen by a panel of Odessa leaders. The Odessa Chamber of Commerce has honored recipients of this distinguished award for over 60 years.

Governor Greg Abbott Visits the Welding Department at Odessa College

Odessa, Texas/February 3, 2023-On Thursday, February 2nd, Governor Greg Abbott visited the Welding Department at Odessa College, where he, OC President, Dr. Gregory Williams, State Representative, District 81 Brooks Landgraf, State Senator, District 31 Keven Sparks and other officials held a WORKFORCE OF TOMORROW Roundtable discussing the impact that welding has on oil and gas and manufacturing.

The Odessa College welding Department serves students from Ector County ISD and other school districts from around the Permian Basin and West Texas providing graduates that are trained and skilled welders.

Currently there is a high demand for welders in the oil and gas and manufacturing sectors. Odessa College’s Welding program is trying meet the demand.

Odessa Police Investigating Aggravated Assault at DK at 4601 Oakwood

Odessa, Texas/January 30, 2023-On January 22, 2023 at approximately 8:40pm, an aggravated assault occurred at the DK, located at 4601 Oakwood. The male subject (wearing a blue shirt, gray hoodie, and white hat) shown is considered to be a person of interest. He was also occupying a blue Dodge 4-door truck. Texas Tech University Health Science Center Permian Basin Hosts Healthcare Career Fair

Odessa, Texas/January 27, 2023-Texas Tech University Health Science Center hosted around 40 Ector County ISD students at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center Permian Basin Healthcare Career Fair. The goal of the fair is to inspire, encourage and inform students about careers in healthcare from nursing to being a physician.

Multiple Texas Tech University Health Science Center faculty, medical students and resident physicians volunteered their time providing information and demonstration to the ECISD students.

The local College and University benefit from large contributions to programs for students related to oil and gas from major oil companies and industry non-profit organizations in the Odessa-Midland area. Very small financial contributions are donated to the medical field and healthcare programs.

Ector County ISD has programs available at the secondary level for students interested in a career path in healthcare.

Reagan Elementary at ECISD Unveil Murals by Artist/Painter/Muralist Tabata Ayup

Odessa, Texas/Ector County ISD leaders, Reagan Elementary school administrators, students and Reagan parents came together to celebrate the mural ribbon cutting ceremony. The gymnasium walls are decorated with an interactive mural customized for Reagan Allstar students.

Tabata Ayup is a professional with 15 years of experience as a muralist and artist. She studied at the institute for Art and Restoration in Florence, Italy.

Students and guests were provided 3-D glasses to be able to see hidden images such as stars, chemical formulas, and the DNA strands that were painted within the murals.

Tabata Ayup has painted murals in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico, and has been featured in exhibitions in Odessa, Midland, Santa Fe, New Mexico and Olando, Florida. Ms. Ayup created and painted a Christmas Ornament for State Representative Brooks Landgraf, District 81 that was placed on the Texas Capitol Christmas Tree.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce Junior Leadership 34th Annual Class

Odessa, Texas/January 23, 2023-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce held the 34th annual Junior Leadership Odessa Program hosted by Odessa Regional Medical Center. Twenty-one High School students from Odessa participated in the skills building retreat.

Junior Leadership Odessa is a program sponsored by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce that is designed to expose high school Juniors to Odessa’s recourses and many opportunities available in the community.
