UT Permian Basin Expanding its Direct Admissions program for high school Seniors entering College

Odessa, Texas/December 12, 2025-The University of Texas Permian Basin is expanding its Direct Admissions program for high school seniors entering college in Fall 2026. This year, the University has offered automatic admission to 2,198 seniors across seven partner school districts, a notable increase from last year’s 1,680 offers

Through Direct Admissions, qualified seniors receive a guaranteed acceptance to UT Permian Basin eliminating the need for an Apply Texas or Common App application.

Qualified OC TECH and Odessa Collegiate Academy, the Early College High School Seniors received their UPTB Admissions Letter at a special ceremony at the Saulsbury Conference Center at Odessa College.

Odessa Police Department Continue Investigating Triple Homicide in Northeast Odessa

Odessa, Texas/December 10, 2025-An arrest has been made in connection to a triple homicide that occurred last night in North Odessa. Mitchel Reynolds has the information. 

A 15-year-old male has been charged with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons, a Capital Felony. The 15-year-old male suspect is currently in custody at the Ector County Youth Center.

On Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at approximately 5:45pm, OPD responded to the 87th Street Apartments (8740 Hunter Miller Way) in reference to a shooting that had occurred. Upon arrival, officers located the apartment and found three deceased victims.

The suspect entered the residence and shot his ex-girlfriend’s mother, identified as 39-year-old Jessica Rodriguez. Then he shot his ex-girlfriend’s 9-year-old brother and 13-year-old sister. the 15-year-old male suspect had planned on shooting his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend outside of school but changed his mind.

Meals on Wheels Renews Partnership with H E B for Feast of Sharing #homebound #communityevent

Odessa, Texas/December 4, 2025-Meals on Wheels teamed up once again with H-E-B for the annual Feast of Sharing community dinner on Friday, December 5th at the Ector County Coliseum. This year, H-E-B also provided a special holiday meal for homebound Meals on Wheels of Odessa clients, ensuring everyone had a chance to enjoy the season’s generosity.  

The Feast of Sharing event is open to the public and will feature holiday music, live entertainment, games for the kids, and a special visit from Santa Claus. 

HEB contributed a six-thousand-dollar donation to help provide special holiday meals for Meals on Wheels of Odessa clients throughout Odessa and Ector County. 

Employees from H-E-B visited the Meals on Wheels of Odessa facility to volunteer their time, helping prepare and deliver meals to elderly and homebound clients across the community.

Sports Facilities Companies Present Marketing and Strategic Planning for the new Sports Complex

Odessa, Texas/November 19, 2025-The Odessa City Council received a presentation from Sports Facilities Companies outlining how they would manage and operate the proposed multi-sports complex and the services they plan to offer. The council’s goal is to elevate Odessa’s presence in the statewide sports scene, making the city competitive with larger communities by attracting tournaments and a wide range of sports activities.

The management group outlined their vision for marketing and strategic planning to the council, highlighting how they intend to attract tournaments, concerts, and a wide range of entertainment events to the sports complex.

Sports Facilities Companies will monitor visitor attendance, oversee repairs and maintenance, and keep track of all sports complex activities, providing regular updates and reports to the city.
