Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Celebrate a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Brizy’s Barbershop

Odessa, Texas/August 10, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Brizy’s Barbershop located at 1005 Maple Ave.  

Members of the Hispanic Chamber and its Ambassadors celebrated with Brianna Lopez, her family, friends, staff and her pastors during the special ribbon cutting ceremony.

The barbershop has had a long history since it opened several decades ago in what used to be part of the Rock Hill Shopping Center.

Ector County ISD Welcomes Students Back to School

West Odessa-Ector County/Odessa, Texas/August 9, 2023-Ector County ISD welcomed students to the first day of school at several elementary schools across the district: Jordan Elementary, Burleson Elementary and Carver.

Students at Buddy West Elementary in West Odessa were excited to see old friends and making new friends as well as meeting the new first year teacher.

Ector County ISD estimates about 33,500 students will be attending school during the 2023-2024 school year.

Five Students Receive a $1,200 Scholarship from the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter

Odessa, Texas/August 8, 2023-The Panamerican Golf Association, Odessa Chapter held a scholarship awards presentation on Monday, August 7th.  

Irish Manlucot , a Nursing Student at Odessa College-Received a $1,200 scholarship from the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter and Nathaniel Sims, who recently graduated from the Richard Milburn Academy in Odessa also received a $1,200 from the PAGA-Odessa Chapter.

The scholarship money that was raised came from a golf tournament the Panamerican Golf Association-Odessa Chapter recently held in Monahans.

Odessa Police Department Block Party at Floyd Gwin Park-Back to School Themed Event

Odessa, Texas/August 6, 2023-On Saturday, August 5th, the Odessa Police Department held their annual Block Party at Floyd Gwin Park located at 10th and County Rd. West. Over 200 people came out to the fun family event. Backpacks were handed out to students on a first come first serve basis for the first day of school.

Visitors to Odessa Police Department’s Block Party enjoyed games, Jumpers, Hot Dogs, Chips and drinks, popcorn and other treats, and were able to participate in fun give a-ways.

Several non-profit agencies were at the OPD Block Party in the PAL Gym handing out candy and information. Kids, Moms and Dads got to see the OPD SWAT armored vehicles, personal protective hardware and tactical gear.

Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Networking Event at CYCLES 28

Odessa, Texas/August 6, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Cycle 28 located within the Copper Rose Building at 415 N. Grant Ave. In downtown Odessa.

The ribbon cutting ceremony at Cycle 28 also included a women’s networking event with FABULOUS WOMEN OF ODESSA NETWORKING GROUP and with women who attended the event along with the Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Ector County ISD Holds School Bond Proposal Town Hall Meeting at Travis Elementary

Odessa, Texas/August 4, 2023-Ector County ISD held a Town Hall meeting at Jordan Elementary in North Odessa and at Travis Elementary in South Odessa.  Residents heard a presentation by Scott Muri Superintend of Schools at ECISD on a $427 million dollar plus bond proposal. Chris Stanley, President of the Board of Trustees, Delma Abalos and other school officials also provided information on the needs of the school district.

Scott Muri has heard from residents of Odessa and Ector County who are in favor of the bond proposal. The Permian Basin Strategic Partnership has agreed to add more funding if the bond proposal is passed.

An issue that was brought up during the town hall meeting was the increase in property taxes.

Natividad Armendariz added that if the School Bond Proposal does not pass, residents will pay more in taxes on any future school bond proposals.

The more than $427 million dollar school bond proposal includes a new middle school, maintenance and repairs, transportation, fine arts, athletics, transition learning Center, Technology Department and Agriculture. The next town hall will be on August 7th at 6:00pm at West Elementary and Permian High School.
