Book Signing Event With Author Charles H Norman III Honoring the Vocal Group “The Velvets”

Odessa, Texas/January 13, 2023-Author, Charles H. Norman III held a book signing event at the Odessa Chamber of Commerce of his new book “Road To Reconciliation…And Beyond”. The book is in honor of the internationally known 60s musical Do Wop group “The Velvets.” The vocal group was formed by a teacher and several students at Blackshear High School, now known as Blackshear Magnet Elementary School located at East Murphy and South Dixie Blvd. In South Odessa.

In late June of 2022 a celebration of “The Velvets” called “The Velvets Endeavor” was held on the original Blackshear High School stage in conjunction with the Juneteenth parade and fair.

Gilbert Vazquez, Former Educator at Ector County Independent School District was a young teen living in Odessa when her first heard the music of “The Velvets.”

he National PAGA Odessa Chapter Holds Yearly Tournament and Board of Directors Election 2023

Odessa, Texas/January 11, 2023-The National Pan American Golf Association, Odessa Chapter recently held their golf tournament and board member elections. The National PAGA organization has been in existence for over 50 years and in 9 states with 44 chapters.

44 players participated in the tournament playing low scores and skins. The National PAGA Odessa Chapter will be reaching out to female players and plan to have golf clinics for kids in 2023.

Lawsuit filed by the Gaven Norris Law firm Triggers Odessa City Council “Re-Do”

Odessa, Texas/January 10, 2023-The filing of a law suit by the Gaven Norris Law Firm against the City of Odessa and each member of the Odessa City Council triggered a “do-over” for the council to allow residents of Odessa to speak against the termination of City Manager, Michael Marrero and City Attorney, Natasha Brooks, despite the positive job performance and evaluation by the previous council.

Commentary on social media suggested that the Odessa City Manager, Michael Marrero and Odessa City Attorney Natasha Brooks were terminated by Mayor Javier Joven and the new City Council due to the game rooms that were popping up around the city of Odessa.

City of Midland Mandatory Boil Water Notice-DRB Media Communications Digital News

Midland, Texas/January 5, 2023-On Monday, January 2nd 2023 a contractor working off of Highway 158 near Grasslands ruptured a waterline causing disruption of one of the City of Midland’s water sources. Later Monday evening, mechanical and Operator issues developed at the Midland Water Plant causing further disruptions.

The water is lake water and unclean for drinking, therefore the need for the boil water noticed issued by the City of Midland.

Dr. Whitney Craig of the Midland Health Department said that water for food and drinks need to be boiled. Restaurants and business that utilize water in their business activities need to close.

Odessa Fire Rescue Promotes Two Assistant Chiefs Chief/Upcoming John Alvarez Retirement Ceremony

Odessa, Texas/January 4, 2023-Recently Odessa Fire Rescue promoted two assistant chiefs. One to the position of Assistant Chief of Administration. The other key position to the Assistant Chief of EMS.

Bradley Reese was promoted to the key role of Assistant Chief of Administration, overseeing Emergency Management and responsible of internal investigations

Daniel Chavez is the current Assistant Chief of EMS after the retirement of Assistant Chief Rodd Huber, who recently retired on December 30th after 27 years of service with Odessa Fire Rescue.

Odessa Fire Rescue will have a Retirement Ceremony for Chief John Alvarez on Friday, January 6th at 1:30pm at the Central Fire Station and Administration Building. Chief John announced his retirement December 6, 2022, after 30 years of service

The Odessa Police Department’s 5th Annual Chief’s 3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament

Odessa, Texas/December 29, 2022-Ector County ISD hosted the 5th Annual Chief’s 3 on 3 Youth Basketball Tournament at the Permian High School Field House. Students from the Permian Basin participated in this fun event with officers from the Odessa Police Department.
