Running in the Dark 5K Run Benefiting the Recording Library of West Texas

Odessa, Texas/September 8, 2025- This is DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS, I’m David Gomez. A non-profit organization is having a 5K Run this Saturday, September 13th at Midland College. Danny Barrera has the story.  

The Recording Library of West Texas will be hosting a 5K Run at Midland College on Saturday, September 13th beginning at 6pm. All proceeds benefit the various programs that the Recording Library of West Texas offers.

This year marks the First Annual Running in the Dark, an event that evolved from the former ‘Dining in the Dark,’ a three-course meal with wine pairings. The run takes place this Saturday, aligning with the 16th of September Celebration.

Midland College Hosts Science Extravaganza 2025

Midland, Texas/March 31, 2025-Midland College hosted the annual Science Extravaganza 2025. Around 1,300 sixth grade students from MISD engaged in an exciting, interactive and hands-on science experience.

This year, MC’s Science Extravaganza features activities that include explosive chemistry experiments, an obstacle course, fingerprinting and other fun activities.

Midland College faculty also interacted with the 6th Graders giving the students a glimpse into college life and the importance of STEM Education.

UT Permian Basin & Midland College Partner to Strengthen Future Educators

On Tuesday, May 7th the University of Texas Permian Basin and Midland College signed an agreement establishing an Education Pathway. 

This partnership will address the growing need for teachers in the region.

The MC to UTPB Education Pathway allows students to earn their associate degree at Midland College and then seamlessly transfer to the University of Texas Permian Basin to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Education

Midland College holds Science Extravaganzaa for Midland ISD Elementary Students

Midland, Texas/April 29, 2024-Midland College recently hosted “Science Extravaganza” for Midland ISD Elementary students. The purpose of the science event is to get them involved, not only in math and science, but other life sciences.

Midland College will have a taskforce in the fall that will investigate Artificial Intelligence, how it will affect academia and how to teach it to the next generation of students and how to use it in a proper and ethical way.

Education Partnership of the Permian Basin Launches the Permian Basin Innovation Zone

Midland, Texas/October 19, 2023-The Education Partnership of the Permian Basin launched the Permian Basin Innovation Zone also known as PBIZ. This ground-breaking collaborative is designed to expand opportunities to Rual students in the Permian Basin.

McCamey ISD, Buena Vista ISD, Grandfalls-Royality ISD, and Crane ISD in partnership with Odessa College and Midland College will create pathways to provide high-level, high-quality education opportunities for rural students.

Two Freshman students from Buena Vista ISD described the benefits and disadvantages of being a student in a small school.

Midland College Holiday Evening A Free Community Event

Midland, Texas/December 6, 2022-Midland College recently hosted a free Holiday Evening at the Allison Fine Arts Building. Families and their children had the opportunity to take a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Families and guests were able to purchase a chili dinner, with proceeds benefiting the Alumni scholarships.
