Midland Animal Shelter Plagued by Capacity Issues

Midland, Texas/June 24, 2024-The Midland Animal Shelter is informing residents of an over capacity of pets at the shelter.

The Midland Animal Services is asking for compassionate Midlanders to help save the lives of nearly 250 animals, who need loving homes.

Midland Animal Services says that residents need to spay and or neuter their pets to help reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs.

New Ector County Republican Party Leadership Holds an Open House and Meet & Greet Event

Odessa, Texas/June 21, 2024-The Ector County Republican Party recently held an Open House-Meet & Greet event at the Party Headquarters. Donna Kelm, the newly elected Party Chair as well as the newly elected precinct chairs met with supporters and guests.

The Salvation Army in Odessa Officially Reopens Mabee Red Shield Lodge

Odessa, Texas/June 14, 2024-The Salvation Army in Odessa held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the official reopening of the Shelter. The Salvation Army Shelter has been open and operating since December 2023.

In years past the Salvation Army required those seeking shelter during dangerous summer and winter weather to provide identification. Now, the Salvation Army welcomes anyone needing help without an ID.

The Salvation Army shelter in Odessa has 54 beds and can provide cots for overflow, and partners with other nonprofit agencies to provide shelter for families.

The City of Odessa has made a commitment to help the Salvation Army with the growing homeless population by providing funding through Community Development Block Grants.

Ector County Courthouse Closes Again Due To Flooding

Odessa, Texas/June 3, 2024-On Monday morning, June 3rd, at approximately 10am, employees, Judges and staff evacuated the Ector County Courthouse due to a major water break within the building. The water damage affected the County Clerk’s Office and the basement where an archive of records is stored.

Visitors to the courthouse that had pending court appointments and other business were turned away. During the month of February 2023, the Ector County Courthouse experienced a water break that affected offices, courtrooms and other important locations within the aging building.

Due to the poor infrastructure and old turn-off valves the aging water pipes  gave way to water pipe ruptures.

It is unknown what the cost of the damage is or how much money the County lost from business transactions due to the closing of the Courthouse. Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett said that the Courthouse should be open for business Tuesday morning, June 4th at 8am.

West Texas Food Bank Receives 4,860 Pounds of Apples from United Family of Supermarkets and Market Street

Odessa, Texas/April 26, 2024-On Wednesday, April 24th, United Supermarkets and Market Street donated 4,860 pounds of apple to the West Texas Food Bank. The donation is part of the “Take a Bite out of Hunger” program.

The United Family and Market Street provide special packages of apples that is sold to store guest that go towards the “Take a Bite Out of Hunger” program 

The United Family has partnered with FirstFruits for 14 years. The two companies have donated more than 600,000 pounds of apples and fed 167, 000 families.

Emergency food boxes are distributed on Wednesdays at the West Texas Food Bank in Odessa, and on Thursdays at the West Texas Food Bank in Midland.

City of Midland Celebrates the Return of Delta Airlines to Midland International Air & Space Port

Midland, Texas/April 25, 2024-On Monday, April 22nd, the City of Midland celebrated the return of Delta Airlines to Midland International Air & Space Port. Delta will operate three times daily on a dual-class regional jet equipped with First Class and Delta Comfort.

Since the end of Covid and other restrictions, Midland International Air & Space Port has seen a significant increase in passenger traffic.
