Volunteers & Students Help the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Fall Cleanup

Odessa, Texas/October 21, 2025-This is DRB Media Communications Digital News. The Black Chamber of Commerce held their Fall Cleanup this past weekend. Danny Barrera has the story. 

Volunteers and Students from the ECISD Middle Schools and High Schools came out this past Saturday to help the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin cleanup areas of southside Odessa.

During the Fall and Spring cleanups, the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin invites volunteers and School District students to participate in helping to beautify the City of Odessa.

36th Annual Crime Stoppers Conference Hosted by the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center

Odessa, Texas/October 16, 2025-Crime Stoppers programs from across the state gather once a year in a host city selected by the state. During the annual conference, participating programs receive the mandated16 hours of training required to ensure they remain in full compliance.

Several Crime Stoppers programs, along with their volunteers and coordinators, were recognized for their achievements during a special awards ceremony luncheon at the conference.

Westminster Presbyterian Church Food Box Distribution Event

 

Odessa, Texas/July 30, 2023-On Saturday, July 29th, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Odessa held its monthly food distribution event. Cars began lining up at 7:30am from the Church’s west parking lot around Tanglewood street. Westminster Presbyterian Church provides this service to those in need within the city and county.

The food distribution event is scheduled on the last Saturday of the month with the exception for Thanksgiving and Christmas, food boxes are given out prior to the holidays. The boxes are loaded up on Thursday prior to the event.

Westminster Presbyterian Church members and volunteers from across the community that included a former University president, educators and employees from the local school district came out to help with the food box distribution event.

MCH Volunteers Hosted Reading Event for MLK Day of Service-DRB Media Communications Digital News

Odessa, Texas/January 17, 2023-On Monday, January 16th, the Volunteer Services at Medical Center Hospital hosted two reading events for children as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Services.

Texas Scholars Program Hosted by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce-DRB Media Communications Digital News

Odessa, Texas/October 10, 2022-The Texas Scholar Program is a program of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce for students, 9th thru 12th grade. The Texas Scholar Program encourages students to volunteer and be move involved in the community.

Approximately 150 non-profit agencies have been approved by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce to receive Texas Scholar hours. Twenty agencies participated in the Texas Scholars Program event at the Dick and Amelia Saulsbury Conference Center at Odessa College.

The Odessa Chamber of Commerce began the Texas Scholar Program in 1997 and the program usually starts at the beginning of the school year.

The Texas Scholar Program is not a requirement for students however, a large number of students are already volunteering at approved agencies.
