Odessa Police Investigating Deadly Crash, One Person Deceased

Odessa, Texas/June 7, 2024-On Friday, morning, June 7th, at approximately 9:35am Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a deadly crash in the 4800 block of East University. 

The investigation revealed that a Dodge Challenger and a Honda Accord were the two vehicles involved in the crash. The investigation further revealed that the driver and passengers were on a test drive of the Dodge Challenger that was heading east on University. The Honda Accord was traveling westbound and was going to turn south onto Oakwood when the crash occurred. The driver of the Honda Accord was ejected from the vehicle and was deceased at the scene. 

The driver and passengers in the Dodge Challenger were taken to Medical Center Hospital with unknow injuries. 

The investigation of this deadly crash is ongoing

Cultural Celebrations Council and City of Odessa Welcomes Navarro Group a Cultural Events Planner

Odessa, Texas/June 4, 2024-Recently, The City of Odessa along with the Odessa Chamber of Commerce and Chamber Ambassadors welcomed the Houston based Navarro Group. The special program introduced the Cultural Celebrations Council of Odessa, a special events organization that has partnered with the City of Odessa.

The Cultural Celebrations Council of Odessa revealed new logos and a rebranding of the Christmas parade and the Firecracker Fandango.

The goal of the Navarro Group is preserving the Mexican traditions and culture through fun family events like parades and other live entertainment, that will also include Dia De Los Muertos Parade and Festival.

City of Odessa Mayor Joven and the City Council had approved $50 thousand dollars to the Navarro Group to bring a higher standard of cultural entertainment.

Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1 Judge Carlos Chavez, symbolically swore in the Cultural Celebrations Council of Odessa Board at the finale of the Navarro Group presentation.

Ector County Courthouse Closes Again Due To Flooding

Odessa, Texas/June 3, 2024-On Monday morning, June 3rd, at approximately 10am, employees, Judges and staff evacuated the Ector County Courthouse due to a major water break within the building. The water damage affected the County Clerk’s Office and the basement where an archive of records is stored.

Visitors to the courthouse that had pending court appointments and other business were turned away. During the month of February 2023, the Ector County Courthouse experienced a water break that affected offices, courtrooms and other important locations within the aging building.

Due to the poor infrastructure and old turn-off valves the aging water pipes  gave way to water pipe ruptures.

It is unknown what the cost of the damage is or how much money the County lost from business transactions due to the closing of the Courthouse. Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett said that the Courthouse should be open for business Tuesday morning, June 4th at 8am.

West Texas Food Bank Odessa Campus Kids’s Farmers Market

Odessa, Texas/June 2, 2024-On Saturday, June 1st, the West Texas Food Bank, Odessa Campus held the Kid’s Famers Market. Families were able to pick up fruits, vegetables and other goodies for free.

2024 Disaster Exercise at Midland International Air & Space Port

Midland, Texas/June 1, 2024-The City of Midland, First Responders, Midland PD and the Midland International Air & Space Port along with Odessa Fire Resue held a Disaster Exercise. The 2024 DisEx is a way of evaluating the Airport Emergency Plan to identify strengths and weaknesses in the plan.

If a mass casualty event should occur at the Midland International Air & Space Port the first responder community will be ready to respond and save lives.

Airports certified for air carrier operations must have an Airport Emergency Plan. The plan must be reviewed annually and tested every three years.

Volunteers included cadets from the Midland Fire Department, members of the Civil Air Patrol, STEM Academy and from departments of the City of Midland simulated victims of a mass casualty event. Inflatable mannequins were also used to simulate victims. The last Disaster Exercise was in May of 2021.

Odessa, Texas/May 31, 2024-The Desert Hawks Football Team and the Odessa Fire Department gathered at Burnett Elementary to form a caravan to welcome young Penelope Cisneros who is battling kidney cancer.

Members of the Desert Hawks Football team along with the team’s mascot celebrated in front of young Penelope Cisneros’ home along with her parents, family and friends.

 Penelope Cisneros was diagnosed in late March of this year with Wilms Tumor, a kidney cancer found in children. She began treatment in April and now able to continue her treatment in Midland.
