Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Officially Celebrating the Opening of Odessa College Downtown

Odessa, Texas/July 28, 2023-Odessa College held the official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Odessa College Downtown Phase 1 project. The special event began at 8am with a light breakfast followed by the ceremony. The new downtown site will be open to the public starting on Tuesday, August 1st.

Odessa College Downtown was designed for entertainment and education and includes two stages and an amphitheater, a splash pad, seating areas, and parking for food trucks.

Long time residents of Odessa, have always heard-” You raise your family in Midland, and you raise hell in Odessa.” Mayor Joven believes that this attitude is slowly changing due to partnerships with Odessa College, the City of Odessa, the ODC and the Medical Center Health System and other institutions changing the image of Odessa.

Odessa College is experiencing 8 thousand plus in college enrollment. Odessa College Downtown will be a location that OC students can enjoy and generate more enrollment growth.

West Odessa Residents Attend Town Hall Meeting

West Odessa-Ector County/July 22, 2023-Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett and Ector County Commissioner Precinct 1, Mike Gardner held a Town Hall meeting at the Ector County Sheriff’s Office annex located at Kellus –Turner Park. The purpose of the Town Hall is to gather information from residents of West Odessa regarding the future of their community.

The town hall event turned hostile, and a shouting match ensued, when the topic of West Odessa becoming its own city was brought up by Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett.

 Odessa Fire Rescue and EMS are part of an interlocal agreement between the City of Odessa and Ector County. OFR is responding to calls for service in West Odessa during the day and night. One option to help West Odessa residents is to create an emergency district and fund it by some type of county tax levied on the population of West Odessa.

Residents of West Odessa have issues with county roads not being properly maintained, water concerns with the Ector County Utility District, having to pay for trash pickup and other problems. Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett plans to have more Town Hall meetings regularly.

Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Ribbon Cutting at Kimberly Quintero Real Estate Group

Odessa, Texas/July 16, 2023-The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce celebrated a new Hispanic business with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Kimberly Quintero Real Estate Group located at 1807 E. 7th.

14th Annual Robert E Williams Golf Tournament Hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce Permian Basin

Odessa, Texas/July 16, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held its 14th annual Robert E. Williams Golf Tournament at the Sunset Golf Course. The purpose of the golf tournament is to raise funds to provide scholarships to qualified High School Seniors graduating in 2024.

This year, the Robert E. Williams Golf Tournament had 22 teams of 4 players, that included business owners, City of Odessa representatives, Ector County Commissioner, Pct. 2 Greg Simmons and other VIP’S. Some of the funds raised come from sponsorships and banner sponsors.

Superior Healthplan and the Odessa Family YMCA-Dancing with the Stars Prom for Active Seniors

Odessa, Texas/July 16, 2023-Superior Healthplan and the Odessa Family YMCA held “Dancing with Superior Stars” Senior Prom. This event is for active seniors and is on every 2nd Friday of the Month from 2-4pm.

Odessa Police Department Holds Coffee With A Cop Event Hosted by Whataburger on 42nd & JBS Parkway

Odessa, Texas/July 14, 2023-The Odessa Police Department held its first Coffee with a Cop event in three years. Officers met with residents and patrons at the Whataburger located at 42nd and JBS Parkway.
