Odessa, Texas/January 8, 2022-The Odessa chapter of the League of United Latin American Citizens hosted a community discussion on domestic violence in the Odessa City Council chambers at city hall. The meeting was to be focused on the violent death of Heather Leann Rodriguez by a former boyfirend, and why the system of laws to protect domestic violence victims failed Heather Rodriguez.

It was revealed that Heather’s former boyfriend was harassing her at her job. Monica Franco said that, Heather was told by Heather’s employer, a business located in Midland that she needed to file a protective order before she could return to work.

The Odessa Police Department responded to the Sonic at 87th and Andrews Hwy regarding an incident that resulted in the death of an Odessa man.
The initial investigation revealed that the victim, the only occupant of a black Chevrolet pickup, was parked at the Sonic. At some point the victim exited his vehicle, the truck began to roll backwards, and the victim was run over.
The victim, identified as Joshua Lujan, 41 years of age, was transported to Medical Center Hospital by private vehicle where he subsequently was pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified.
This incident is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information concerning this incident are asked to notify Odessa Crime Stoppers at 432-333-TIPS.
The driver has been identified as 28-year-old Adan Olivas Hidalgo of Mexico and the passenger has been identified as 41-year-old Maria Belmares Martinez of Idalou TX. The investigation continues.
Original Summary: On 7-12-24 at approximately 11:30pm, Odessa Police responded to 22nd and Golder in reference to a major crash. Investigation revealed that a black 2018 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound in the 600 block of W. 22nd St. at a high rate of speed.
The driver lost control causing the vehicle to strike a street sign and north fence of Bowie Middle School. The vehicle continued through the fence and struck the west side of Bowie Middle School where it came to rest.
Both the driver and front passenger of the vehicle were pronounced deceased on scene. Next of kin have not been notified. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors and the investigation continues.
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced the Counter Secretary Negligence In Protecting Election Runners (SNIPER) Act to require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary to provide timely, impartial, and transparent determinations for a presidential candidate’s eligibility for new or augmented United States Secret Service (USSS) protection.
Under current statute, the acting DHS Secretary, in consultation with a Congressional advisory committee, has sole discretion to authorize U.S. Secret Service protection to presidential candidates. This legislation comes at a pivotal time due to the attempted assassination of Former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, and the subsequent questions regarding resourcing of USSS assets to the Trump campaign.
“In today’s highly divisive political climate, the DHS Secretary owes all presidential candidates fair, apolitical, timely, and transparent consideration of USSS protection,” said Congressman Pfluger. “Our country was millimeters away from a presidential assassination. We must provide adequate security for all presidential candidates—no matter their party affiliation.”
Background:
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas declined three requests from Robert F. Kennedy for USSS protection, most recently in December 2023. Secretary Mayorkas provided no justification for denials and ignored requests for months. Kennedy faced numerous credible threats including the arrest of an armed man impersonating a U.S. Marshall at a campaign event. Historical exceptions for extending U.S. Secret Service protections beyond front runners include: Ben Carson, Bernie Sanders (2016); Herman Caine, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich (2012); Pat Robertson and Jesse Jackson (1988).

“For the last several years Democrats have perpetrated a fraud against the American people. We were called liars and exaggerators and accused of producing “cheap fakes” when we questioned the mental fitness of the Commander-in-Chief. We have been vindicated. Complicit in this fraud are Congressional Democrats and party leaders who are now discarding the 14 million votes in this year’s Democratic primaries. If President Biden is not fit to run for President, he cannot be President. He should resign immediately, if he does not, every Democrat must call for his resignation.
