Odessa Police Department’s 5th Annual Back to School Bash and Backpack Giveaway

Odessa, Texas/August 5, 2024-The Odessa Police Department held their 5th Annual Back to School Bash at Sherwood Park hundreds of people came to the free family event. 500 backpacks filled with school supplies were handed out as well as raffle items for school-age kids.

Parents with their children were able to get free hot dogs, chips and drinks. City departments provided guests with goodie bags and giveaways.

Odessa Police Department’s Annual Back to School Block Party 2024

 

The Odessa Police Department and 1st Responders are having the annual Back to School Block Party this Saturday, August 3rd, at Sherwood Park from 10am to 2pm. Visitors to the event will enjoy food, drinks and games.

Odessa Police Academy 27 Traffic Stop Training and Simunitions Training

Odessa, Texas/July 26, 2024-Odessa Police Academy 27 held Patrol Skills training, where recruits combine what they have learned about Penal Code, Traffic Code, Contact Report Writing and other skills and practice making traffic stops.

Recruits are trained in daytime vehicle approach where the Officer will approach the vehicle from the driver’s side and nighttime approach where the officer will approach the vehicle from the passenger side.

OPA 27 recruits conducted SIMUNITION training where they and the bad guy actor produce a weapon.

The Odessa Police Department currently has 6 officer pilots in the drone program. Plans are underway to train more officers to be FAA certified to be drone pilots.

Odessa Police Investigating Deadly Crash, One Person Deceased

Odessa, Texas/June 7, 2024-On Friday, morning, June 7th, at approximately 9:35am Odessa Police and Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a deadly crash in the 4800 block of East University. 

The investigation revealed that a Dodge Challenger and a Honda Accord were the two vehicles involved in the crash. The investigation further revealed that the driver and passengers were on a test drive of the Dodge Challenger that was heading east on University. The Honda Accord was traveling westbound and was going to turn south onto Oakwood when the crash occurred. The driver of the Honda Accord was ejected from the vehicle and was deceased at the scene. 

The driver and passengers in the Dodge Challenger were taken to Medical Center Hospital with unknow injuries. 

The investigation of this deadly crash is ongoing

City of Odessa Officials Project Graduation Press Conference

Odessa, Texas/May 22, 2024-The City of Odessa, Odessa Police Department, ECISD Police and the Ector County Sheriff’s Office held the 2024 Project Graduation press conference. Odessa City Councilwoman Denise Swanner presented a check of 500 dollars to Permian High School and 500-dollar check to Odessa High.
