Annual Santa Claus Landing Event Kicking Off Holiday Season

Odessa, Texas/November 20, 2023-This past Saturday Music City Mall kicked off the Holiday Season. Hundreds of people came out to the annual Santa Claus Landing. Even though Santa arrived by land via Odessa Fire Rescue, families and children were excited to see Santa Claus.

La Raza Style Ministry Holds Food Drive Benefiting Harmony Home Advocacy Center

Odessa, Texas/November 19, 2023-La Raza Style Ministries is a Christian based Motorcycle Club ministry located in Odessa, held a food drive event on Saturday, November 18th at Market Street part of the United Supermarket grocery chain.

Market Street customers bought canned goods and other items and dropped them off to La Raza Style Ministries members at the grocery store to be delivered to Harmony Home Children’s Advocacy Center.

Meals on Wheels Partners with the Red Cross to Deliver and Install Smoke Alarms

Odessa, Texas/November 19, 2023-On Saturday morning, November 18th, Meals on Wheels partnered with the Red Cross to provide smoke alarms to the elderly, disabled and homebound clients of Meals on Wheels in Odessa and Ector County.

Volunteers were issued the necessary tools and a quick training session by representatives of the Red Cross on how to install smoke alarms in various areas of the client’s home.

The goal of Meals on Wheels of Odessa is not only providing a meal, but also helping their clients with much needed services through partnerships.

West Odessa Residents Seek Help From Ector Commissioners Court Regarding Issues With ECUD

Odessa, Texas/November 19, 2023-On Thursday, November 16th, during a regular scheduled meeting of the Ector County Commissioners, residents of West Odessa presented a petition of around four-hundred signatures to the Commissioners Court prior to t Executive Session. The petition was very broad in scope and contained no specific issues to be remedied.

West Odessa residents’ complaint that ECUD officials that include former Ector County Judge Debbie Hays, who is currently the General Manager for the Ector County Utility District violate the taxing entity’s Open Meeting Act and violate their Bi-Laws.

The Ector County Utility District was formed in 1976 under the mandate of the Ector County Commissioners Court of that year. Medical Center Health System Holds Active Shooter Drill

 

Odessa, Texas/November 16, 2023-On Tuesday, November 14th, Medical Center Health System along with several local law enforcement agencies and selected volunteers portraying victims, held an Active Shooter Drill. That began at the Wheatley Stewart Medical Pavillion and concluded inside Medical Center Hospital.

Scenarios change every year, including tornadoes, mass casualties, and active shooter drills. This is a requirement for accreditation for the Medical Center Health System.

MCH Emergency Management, Ector County Hospital District Police and other officials associated with Active Shooter Drill, determined in the debriefing portion of the training found weak spots in certain areas of the hospital.

Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin/33rd Annual Ebony Bar Awards

Odessa, Texas/November 13, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held their 33rd Annual Ebony Bar Awards at the MCM Grande Fundome in Odessa, Texas. Members of the BCCPB, invited guests, representatives from Odessa College, UT Permian Basin and supporting businesses attended the event. The Black Chamber Commerce featured a display of photographs by Steve Goff, a retired professor of Photography at Odessa College and the specialty artwork created by Brandon Norman.

This year’s Ebony Bar Awards celebrated educators who served students at Blackshear when it was a High School and as a Jr. High and Ector High School. Dr. James J. Bolton, Department Chair and Professor of PreHealth at Odessa College was the featured speaker.
