City of Odessa Announces Sports Complex to be Located at Parks Bell Ranch

Odessa, Texas/May 31, 2023-On Tuesday, May 30th, Mayor Javier Joven along with Mark Matta, Odessa City Councilman, District 1 and Denise Swaner, Odessa City Councilwoman at Large announced the new sports complex that will eventually be built in the Parks Bell Ranch area

The Sports Complex will have indoor sports-Basketball and Volleyball and an outdoor multi-purpose complex that will have football, soccer, and will include La Crosse. The Sports Complex Committee hopes that it will be able to bring in tournaments to the City of Odessa and be competitive with Midland

It was announced at the presentation by Councilman Mark Matta, that an Ice-Skating rink was not included in the plan of the Sports Complex.

Several people that attended the Sports Complex announcement hoped that the ice-skating rink would be included in the design of the Complex.

The Odessa City Council will have items related to the Sports Complex on the council agendas regarding infrastructure, costs and other Sports Complex challenges.

Odessa Fire Rescue Badge Pinning and Promotion Ceremony

Odessa, Texas/May 31, 2023-Odessa Fire Rescue recently held a Badge Pinning and Promotion Ceremony at the Odessa Central Fire Station and Administration Building. 10 New OFR hires were promoted to ROOKIE status and 11 firefighters received their one-year shield.

Many young Hispanics in the City of Odessa are choosing a career path towards firefighting/EMT service and joining Odessa Fire Rescue.

Odessa Fire Rescue Rookie, Cesar Hernandez, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and came to Texas with his family at the age of two. He was eligible for the DACA program and graduated from Odessa High School.

Odessa Fire Rescue frequently make runs to west Odessa in Ector County, that has a large Spanish speaking only population. OFR has bilingual firefighters that are able to bridge the communications gap, and help those residents going through a crisis.

Odessa Fire Rescue reaches out to local high school students through the Field the Shield Program and also encouraging female students to join the fire service.

Mayor Javier Joven’s Drug and Crime Commission Project Graduation- Underage Drinking Operation

Odessa, Texas/May 24, 2023-Mayor Javier Joven’s Drug and Crime Commission spoke on the underage drinking operation for the upcoming graduation weekend. Representatives from all local law enforcement agencies were present at the press event.

The Mayor’s Drug and Crime Commission reminds parents to be responsible and not encourage underage drinking, while hosting a graduation party.

Ector County ISD Police will patrol the City of Odessa and issue any citations, which can be from a couple of hundred dollars to thousands of dollars or jail time to those that are caught underage and drinking, and parents who provide alcohol to minors.

Midland ISD Presents Awards to Teachers Totaling $1 5 Million

Midland, Texas/May 23, 2022-During the final week of school, Midland ISD awarded 193 teachers at 33 MISD campuses a total of $1.5 million dollars as part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment.

Texas Memorial Service 2022 2023 Honoring Law Enforcement Officers Killed in the Line of Duty

Odessa, Texas/May 21, 2023-The Odessa Police Department and the Midland Police Department held a Memorial Service at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, in honor of fellow officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The memorial service also honored officers who have died in the line of duty from across the entire State of Texas, and is part of the Texas Memorial Service 2022-2023.

Midland Police Chief Seth Herman presented a speech describing a warrior in battle and dying with honor in battle. The speech was directed at law enforcement officers, who patrol the streets protecting the residents of the community

The week of May 14th – 20th, 2023, has been designated as National Police Memorial Week, and is to recognize the service and sacrifice of U.S. Law Enforcement that have been killed in the line of duty.
