Odessa, Texas/May 7, 2022-Southside Odessa celebrated its’s annual Cinco De Mayo Parade along with several organizations participated in the parade. Political candidates took the opportunity to campaign during the Cinco De Mayo Parade event.

The parade started at South Grant Avenue and E. Murphy down to Clements to the MCH Clinic across from Ector Middle School. The parade featured a youth dance team, low riders, motorcycle clubs, exotic cars and horses with their riders carring the United States flag and Mexico flag.

Cinco De Mayo commemorates the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

DRB MEDIA COMMUNICATIONS DIGITAL NEWS(042122)-STRUCTURE FIRE AT VIKING POOLS IN MIDLAND COUNTY

Midland County, Texas/April 21, 2022-On Wednesday, April 20th, at approximately 7:45 pm a fire was reported at Viking Pools after the last employee of the business locked the gate. The business is located in the area of 1788 in Midland County. 

It is undetermined what caused the fire. At this time, Investigators believe that the fire was accidental and not arson. 

Odessa Fire-Rescue, Odessa Police Department and other first responder agencies assisted the Midland Fire Department, Midland Police Department and Sheriff’s Office in an effort to contain the blaze and traffic control. 

The blaze was extinguished at approximately 1:30 am. 

The business is currently closed, and the investigation continues.

Odessa, Texas/March 16, 2021-The UT System Board of Regents approved the creation of a new $300 million dollar endowment to reduce the cost of higher education for undergraduate students and their families of seven UT academic institutions, that includes UTPB. The UT System, leaders and faculty of UTPB joined with elected officials and community leaders and students to hear details of the Promise Plus program.

This $300 million dollar endowment is an important investment in the expansion of educational opportunities by making it possible for more students to earn a degree at a low cost.

The new Falcon Free program can raise its family income threshold to $100,000 and make it possible for 700 additional students to have their entire tuition covered.

Odessa, Texas/March 10, 2022-VFW Post 4372 in Odessa, Texas presented a check to the Luis Tijerina Foundation. This foundation helps individuals and veterans in the community who are addicted to drugs and alcohol.

The check presented was in the amount of $1 thousand 130 dollars in addition to other funds raised by the Luis Tijerina Foundation.

Odessa,Texas/February 24, 2022-Porras Productions recently held a meet and greet political rally at the Margarita Fairgrounds in south Odessa, where approximately 25 visitors came to the event to meet candidates who are running for local seats in Ector County. The event featured the Ballet Folklorico of Esteban Puerrtas, jumper for the kids, music and speeches.

Odessa, Texas/January 30, 2022-The Odessa Police Department hosted the Odessa Police Academy 23 graduation ceremony at the Odessa Marriott. Seven OPA 23 graduating recruits and 2 Odessa Fire-Rescue officers with the Fire Marshals department completed required training.

Lorenzo Rivas is following in his father’s footsteps when he joined Odessa Fire Rescue in May of 2020. Lorenzo Rivas, Jr., was with the Odessa Fire Department for 25 years until his retirement.
