Ellen Noel Art Museum Ludie Warner Award Honoring Betty L Dale

Odessa, Texas/May 19, 2023-The Ellen Noel Art Museum Connoisseurs hosted the Ludie Warner Award celebrating and honoring Betty L. Dale, who has dedicated time and commitment to the museum for decades.

The Ellen Noel Art Museum is a culmination of many years of grass roots fundraising efforts by Permian Basin residents to build a fine arts museum for the benefit of the community.

The Ellen Noel Art Museum has a Navy collection of Lithographs and Paintings of World War II by Thomas Hart Benton, as well as a World War II and Korean War collection from Betty Dale’s late husband, Chief Albert Dale.

Ector County Republican Women Club Welcomes Sherronna Bishop “America’s Mom” and Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools-ECISD

Odessa, Texas/May 18, 2023-The Ector County Republican Women’s Club held their monthly meeting at the Odessa Country Club. Members heard a presentation and school updates from Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at Ector County ISD.

Dr. Muri informed the Ector County republican Women’s Club, that the State of Texas currently has a 32.5-billion-dollar surplus that school districts across the state would like to get a portion of the budget surplus.

The Ector County Republican Womens Club featured guest speaker Sherrona Bishop, “America’s Mom,” a constitutional conservative, who defends core values of those who do not want to lose the freedoms and rights of all citizens who live in the United States of America.

Children’s Miracle Network Reveals Balloon Logo at MCH Center for Women and Infants

Odessa, Texas/May 16, 2023-On Tuesday, May 16th, Medical Center Health System and Children’s Miracle Network unveiled the CMN Logo on the exterior of the MCH Center for Women and Infants. The reveal has been in the making and highlights MCH being a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital since 1987.

The Children’s Miracle Network, under the guidance of Medical Center Health System Foundation helps Medical Center Health System maintain a high standard for delivering outstanding care through purchasing lifesaving equipment for the NICU and pediatric unit.

Children’s Miracle Network works with local and corporate partners to advocate for children’s health, and continues to bring in funds for Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care. It is through CMN donations that children can be treated at Medical Center Hospital, regardless of payment.

Ector County ISD Teacher Incentive Allotment Programs at Wilson & Young Medal of Honor MIddle School

Odessa, Texas/May 15, 2023-Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Muri presented checks to 11 teachers at Wilson & Young Medal of Honor Middle school on Friday, May 12th, in recognition of the district’s most effective teachers. Two-hundred fifty-eight ECISD teachers earned more than $2.5 million dollars in incentives, who represent 38 Ector County ISD schools.

The Teacher Allotment Program is designed to reward the most effective teacher, through increased academic growth of students in English, Math, Science and other core subjects.

There are three levels of distinction in the Teacher Incentive Allotment Program: The Recognized Teacher; The Exemplary Teacher and The Master’s Level Teacher. Sara Cox, a 6th Grade Teacher reached the level of Master’s Teacher and was awarded a check for 15 thousand dollars.

Funding for the Teacher Incentive Allotment Program comes from the State of Texas, and was approved by the State Legislature several years ago. 

There is pending legislation to add another category to the Teacher Incentive Allotment Program and increased funding.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce Welcomes New 3rd Year Texas Tech Medical Students

Odessa, Texas/May 13, 2023-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce and Medical Center Health System hosted a reception for Year 3 Texas Tech Health Science Center medical students. Approximately 30 medical students were welcomed by representatives of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, MCH, and Mayor Javier Joven.

The Odessa Chamber is the only non-political organization to host new medical students and welcome them to the Odessa community. With a growing population It is hoped that these medical students will one day return and practice medicine in Odessa.

In 2018, Texas had about 54 primary care physicians per 100,000 people. Many Texans live in underserved counties and end up traveling hours for medical care.

Each 3rd years medical student received a backpack loaded with information on banking and other businesses, as well as assorted gift cards.

Odessa Police Respond to West Walmart Threat

Odessa, Texas/May 11, 2023-On Thursday, May 11th, at approximately 8:30am, Odessa Police responded to the West Walmart located at 2450 NW Loop 338 after an unknown male subject called Dispatch and said he was at Walmart with a gun. When Odessa Police arrived officers quickly evacuated the store. A source close to the investigation said that the subject was inside a restroom, and eventually exited the restroom, complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody. There was never an active shooter. There are no reports of any injuries, and the investigation is ongoing.
